Activities at Cookridge Court Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Laura Marshall

Head Activities Coordinator (on Maternity leave)

My name is Laura and I am the Head Activities Coordinator here at Cookridge Court. I have worked in care since 2014 and get so much satisfaction out of knowing I have made a difference to people’s days and have filled the home with a sense of community and happiness. We have created a wonderful culture within our home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active and ensure we all know each residents' preferences so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. The strong relationships we build with our residents, their families and friends is essential to our homely feel.

Life at Cookridge Court Care Home

Dominoes Club

Today at Cookridge Court the residents enjoyed a game of dominoes as part of our very popular games afternoon! A number of the residents at the home had a great time playing a game of dominoes with each other whilst squeezing in a quick natter in between games! The resident’s games afternoon was accompanied by delicious homemade cakes and cuppas!

Everyone had fun as they showed a little friendly competition during each game.

Virtual meeting with Leeds United Foundation

The Leeds United Foundation have recently invited Cookridge Court and our residents to be involved in their weekly support programmes via zoom sessions.

This week some of our residents enjoyed sharing their own sporting memories, discussing historic sport moments and even meeting some of the Leeds United Football players!   A massive thank you to Leeds United Foundation for engaging our residents with the outside community in such a safe and joyous way!

Pancake Day

Yesterday the residents at Cookridge Court Carehome celebrated Pancake Day!   Strove Tuesday marks the start-up lead to Easter. The celebration itself is observed as a day those who are practicing lent can indulge in sweetness before withholding them for 40 days!

The residents at Cookridge Court enjoyed some golden, fluffy, buttermilk pancakes topped with fresh berries and vanilla ice cream...yum!

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone! The residents at Cookridge Court have shared their advice on a happy and healthy relationship.   Two of our residents Jean & Eric, who have been together 71years said "you have to love each other, be faithful to each other & appreciate each other - and that is the key"

Year of the Ox

Cookridge Court in Leeds welcomed the Year of the Ox with a day of celebration and activities, which were a delight for staff and residents of the home.

Inspired by Chinese culture and traditions, lucky red envelopes were exchanged and the home was decorated with hanging red lanterns. Our chef of the year - Sinead Ruddock and the amazing kitchen team cooked up an oriental feast and provided pots of Chinese tea to sit and drink with the together.

Vicki Foster, Deputy Manager of Barchester Cookridge Court saw the occasion as the perfect opportunity for residents to do something different, and bring the popular celebrations going on around the country and local community into the home.

Residents enjoy a trip down under

Residents at Cookridge Court in Leeds have been discovering all things Antipodean in celebration of Australia Day, which took place on Tuesday 26th January.

Residents took part in Australian-themed activities throughout the day including a virtual trip down under including a tour of Sydney Opera House/Sydney harbour/Ayres Rock/Bondi beach/the rainforest and looking at Aboriginal art which everyone really enjoyed.  The favourite activity of the day was however a tasting of Australian wines along with some Australian-themed snacks whipped up by head chef, Sinead.
