Activities at Cubbington Mill Care Home
Every day we run different activities throughout our home. The activities are designed and adapted to each individuals personal needs. The activities are designed to mentally and physically stimulate the people we care for and also to enhance their life skills and feelings of purpose and self-worth. The activities encourage interaction on a one to one basis, in small groups, in large groups and some are designed for the whole home including staff to be involved in.
We are registered with the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) which ensures we are able to achieve and continually progress to enhance the quality of life for those we support in the home. We provide entertainers such as singers, musicians, magicians, puppeteers, poets and dancers. We also have regular exercise classes and arts and craft classes. Relatives and visitors will be able to see what me make in these classes on display around the home. We have regular trips out on the mini bus to visit garden centres, enjoy high tea, visit the butterfly farm and spend the day at the zoo with a picnic. We encourage the local community, schools, colleges and relatives to come and join us for activities, tea and cake and to visit to share their skills as much as possible.
Staff from across the home are always willing to help and share their knowledge and skills across a whole range of activities we have had everything from carers preforming Bollywood style dancing to cooking classes from the chef. We feel activities are a vital part of the residents lives to ensure they are stimulated mentally and entertained.

Life at Cubbington Mill Care Home
Cubbington Mill Welcomes Volunteer Harry
Say Hello to volunteer Harry who recently joined residents for a week of volunteering to support him in his medical science studies – wow!
Throughout the week Harry sat down with residents and learnt all about their lives, reminiscing and talking through their memories. They also had a chance to test their knowledge as they learnt all about Harry’s university studies and what it takes to become a doctor. Harry helped to support the activities in the home and our male residents particularly appreciated a new face at their Tuesday Gent’s Club.
A massive thank you to Harry for dedicating his time to residents at Cubbington Mill and showing genuine compassion and a strong desire to help others, we hope to see you here again in the future.
Have you ever thought about volunteering? You may have a particular skill, such as singing, crafts or yoga, which you want to use to improve the lives of others. You may prefer to offer companionship to residents and come along regularly to sit and chat with people who may not usually receive frequent visitors. There are endless ways to get involved!
Wright Hassall Solicitor Seminar
Residents recently gathered for a seminar hosted by Tracy Ashby from Wright Hassall LLP. Tracy discussed with residents Wills, Estate Planning and Power of Attorney. They also had a chance to discuss their individual worries or concerns.
Grandparents Day
Here at Cubbington Mill, we had a lovely time marking National Grandparents Day. Some of our residents spent the day reminiscing about their grandparents, and others remembered the moment when they were first told they were going to be a grandparent.
We organised a reminiscing poetry session, where everyone shared stories and photos of their grandparents, grandchildren, and parents to help prompt happy memories. We created a wonderful poem embodying these memories. Residents received wonderful handmade cards from the children of Caterpillar Nursery, which made the day even more special and in return recorded a video of reading out loud the story of ‘Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy’ written by Lynley Dodd.
The Oddfellows
The team at Cubbington Mill recently joined The Oddfellows at their Leamington Oddfellows Hall for Macmillan Coffee Morning. Head Chef, Oliver Hopkins, baked a delicious carrot and walnut cake for the team to sell alongside their own bakes and raffle aiming to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
General Manager, Dimpho Kavanagh, Deputy Manager, Paula Jufa and Activities Coordinator, Hannah Fawcett enjoyed speaking to members about their positive experiences and the recent events happening within the society. We look forward to bringing along residents of Cubbington Mill Care Home to future activities at the hall and hope that this is the beginning of a wonderful friendship.
Wine Tasting
We had a lovely time joining Hospitality Manager, Christophe Noel, and special guests, Lee Isaacs and Nick Parker from Unity Wines and Spirits – as they introduced us to wine tasting techniques, the history of wine and wine making, as well as consumer attitudes.
Our residents had the opportunity to try a variety of wines from sparkling and white to rose and red, alongside a selection of delicious treats.
World First Aid Day
Residents recently celebrated World First Aid Day with a talk from Alexandra Taylor, Community Advocate at St John Ambulance. Our sister home, Harper Fields, joined residents at Cubbington Mill via Microsoft Teams where residents from both homes leant various first aid topics. They even had a go at making and wearing a sling!
