Activities at Cubbington Mill Care Home

Every day we run different activities throughout our home. The activities are designed and adapted to each individuals personal needs. The activities are designed to mentally and physically stimulate the people we care for and also to enhance their life skills and feelings of purpose and self-worth. The activities encourage interaction on a one to one basis, in small groups, in large groups and some are designed for the whole home including staff to be involved in.

We are registered with the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) which ensures we are able to achieve and continually progress to enhance the quality of life for those we support in the home. We provide entertainers such as singers, musicians, magicians, puppeteers, poets and dancers. We also have regular exercise classes and arts and craft classes. Relatives and visitors will be able to see what me make in these classes on display around the home. We have regular trips out on the mini bus to visit garden centres, enjoy high tea, visit the butterfly farm and spend the day at the zoo with a picnic. We encourage the local community, schools, colleges and relatives to come and join us for activities, tea and cake and to visit to share their skills as much as possible.

Staff from across the home are always willing to help and share their knowledge and skills across a whole range of activities we have had everything from carers preforming Bollywood style dancing to cooking classes from the chef. We feel activities are a vital part of the residents lives to ensure they are stimulated mentally and entertained.

Life at Cubbington Mill Care Home

Snow Day

Snow Day

Whilst snow fell at Cubbington Mill, the residents enjoyed a hot chocolate and the odd tipple of Baileys. Some of the Carer's children came and played in the snow and the residents enjoyed watching them without getting cold themselves.

Maintenance Champion

Maintenance Champion

Maintenance Manager, Waldemar Stezycki, has been named as the 'Maintenance Champion' at the Barchester Care Awards 2017.

This award recognises the fantastic job of those working tirelessly to make sure the care settings provided by Barchester are top-notch, pleasant and homely places for residents to live in.

St Andrew's Day

St Andrew's Day

Residents at Cubbington Mill are from a multitude of backgrounds, so we aim to celebrate and acknowledge everybody’s traditions.

We celebrated St Andrew's Day recently, starting with a coffee morning, where we served Scottish shortbread biscuits, followed by smoked salmon with a wee dram of Scottish whiskey.

This was all followed by live entertainment in the afternoon; Val and Rob sang some of the classics and encouraged audience participation too. Everybody had fun singing and dancing along to the music.

The day was topped off with residents being encouraged to sing along to Flower of Scotland. It was a fun day and we are all looking forward to the next celebration.

World Diabetes Day

World Diabetes Day

At Cubbington Mill, we are raising awareness of diabetes. We have made a display on our reception desk and are encouraging everybody to don a blue ribbon. Vera, a resident here, was very keen to show her support and asked to have a ribbon.

Lest We Forget

Lest We Forget

Cubbington Mill residents wanted to show their visitors how much Remembrance Day means to them. When asked how we could show our support and encourage others to continue to purchase poppies, the residents were keen for the poppies to be available at reception, as well as having a display to make people really look and think about what the day means to them.

So, we found some Chinese lanterns and poked some holes in them ready to sew the black wool to create the centres of the poppies. Other residents wanted some white doves on the display, as they represent peace and love, which is promoted throughout the home.

We stuck up our large poppies and some smaller ones too; this has created what we feel is a poppy field on our reception desk for everybody to see and talk about as they come into the home, and will hopefully encourage poppy sales.

Our Youngest Volunteer

Our Youngest Volunteer

Jessica is 6 years old and is our youngest volunteer; she comes in during the school holidays and after school as much as she can.

Jessica has been visiting the residents since she was a baby; her mum, Laura, was a Care Assistant at Cubbington Mill until she left to become a full time mum to Jessica. Laura continued to bring Jessica in to visit, as her Nanny, May, was a resident. Laura is now part of the admin team and is the smiling face we love to see on a Monday morning.

Jessica likes to spend time reading and playing games with residents. She enjoys talking and listening about their lives and brightens everybody’s day when she calls in. We would like to say a huge thank you to Jessica for all her hard work and commitment to Cubbington Mill.
