Activities at Cubbington Mill Care Home

Every day we run different activities throughout our home. The activities are designed and adapted to each individuals personal needs. The activities are designed to mentally and physically stimulate the people we care for and also to enhance their life skills and feelings of purpose and self-worth. The activities encourage interaction on a one to one basis, in small groups, in large groups and some are designed for the whole home including staff to be involved in.

We are registered with the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) which ensures we are able to achieve and continually progress to enhance the quality of life for those we support in the home. We provide entertainers such as singers, musicians, magicians, puppeteers, poets and dancers. We also have regular exercise classes and arts and craft classes. Relatives and visitors will be able to see what me make in these classes on display around the home. We have regular trips out on the mini bus to visit garden centres, enjoy high tea, visit the butterfly farm and spend the day at the zoo with a picnic. We encourage the local community, schools, colleges and relatives to come and join us for activities, tea and cake and to visit to share their skills as much as possible.

Staff from across the home are always willing to help and share their knowledge and skills across a whole range of activities we have had everything from carers preforming Bollywood style dancing to cooking classes from the chef. We feel activities are a vital part of the residents lives to ensure they are stimulated mentally and entertained.

I have been working in care since I was 17 and very passionate about my role, always trying to do bigger & better. I am one of Cubbington Mills Dementia Champions. I'm very privileged to work with the wonderful people and residents at Barchester's Cubbington Mill and hope we all make some lovely memories together! I LOVE to find out about residents interests & hobbies through tools like the “Getting To Know Me Booklets”.

We are always open to new ideas. If you would like to get involved in any of our Life Enrichment activities or have a skill, or project you'd like to share with our residents, please click here to contact me direct. New entertainers and community links are always welcome.

Family Fortunes: Round 3

Family Fortunes: Round 3

The rematch was on - it was the upstairs vs. downstairs unit. Upstairs have won the last two matches; downstairs were yet to win.

The competition was intense between residents and their team captains and vice captains. Downstairs Captain, Karen, had drafted in our Maintenance Manager, Waldemar, as her Vice Captain in hopes of increasing their chances of winning. Upstairs were sticking with Louise as Captain and General Manager, Glynis, as Vice Captain.

Residents were happy and enthusiastic when answering their questions and enjoyed the quiz snacks. It came down to the last question in a survey of 100 people: name the capital cities of European countries; downstairs buzzed in first with the correct answer of Berlin, but it was 3rd on the list. Upstairs had a chance to steal the point and they gave the answer of London, which was the top answer, and they chose to play the rest of the question.

That pretty much sealed the deal, and upstairs officially won for the third time in a row. Downstairs were presented with the dreaded wooden spoon to display on their unit; upstairs were awarded the winner's vase to display on their's.

Stay tuned for the next round, which is coming soon.

Love is in the air

Love is in the air

We decorated bird houses and made bird house wind chimes for all those lovebirds out there. We concentrated hard to match colours and decorate them how we would like our homes. We also made Valentine’s day cards to give to each other, which were designed and made by the residents.

Family Fortunes Rematch

Family Fortunes Rematch

After all the fun of Family Fortunes at Christmas, it was only fair to let the downstairs unit have a go at trying to win. They were doing really well until one of their team captains had to leave. This meant they threw away their 9-7 lead and ended up losing 10-9. Upstairs won again, lead by their Team Captain, Louise, and Vice Captain, Glynis. Well done to upstairs and better luck next time downstairs.

Kurling at Cubbington

Kurling at Cubbington

We have started playing Kurling. It is a great hit with residents of all abilities. The company, Sports 4, provided all the equipment and a trained member of staff to show us how play. Great fun was had by all and we look forward to our next session. Alan was our winner this week.

Congratulations to Our Wonderful Staff!

Congratulations to Our Wonderful Staff!

First of all, we would like to say congratulations to Waldemar Stezycki, our Maintenance Manager, who has won Leamington in Bloom again! The garden looks great and all of the residents, staff and, of course, the Leamington in Bloom committee agree.

We would like to congratulate RGN, Fritzie Salazar, who has worked extremely hard at Cubbington Mill and has recently been promoted to Head of Unit. She has also received her 10 years service award.

We would like to wish Emma Good, one of our careers, good luck, as she has recently left to have a baby. She is expecting a baby girl and everybody at Cubbington Mill can not wait to meet her; she received many girly gifts ready for when the bundle of joy arrives.
