Activities at The Dales Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Kay Thompson
Hi, my name is Kay and I am the activities coordinator here at the Dales. I joined the team in June 2021 and I love spending time with the residents each day, delivering meaningful activities that keep our residents active and social stimulated, more importantly we have fun! Our life enrichment programme is varied and we have lots to do!
Before I joined the home I was a lecturer teaching young individuals with high needs, it is very different being an activities coordinator but it does help with understand how to ensure everyone is happy each and every day in everything that we do.
I look forward to meeting you when you visit our home.

Life at The Dales Care Home
The Astor's at Cliveden
Our residents came together to enjoy an exciting virtual talk courtesy of the team at National Trust Talks Service. The illustrated talk took us closer to one of Cliveden’s most famous families, the Astors. Our residents were able to discover what motivated William Waldorf Astor, America’s richest man, to purchase Cliveden in 1893 and how the estate became the centre of high society in the 1920 s and 30 s thanks to his son Waldorf and daughter in law Nancy Astor.
The Astors time at Cliveden came to an end in the 1960 s after the estate became infamously associated with Profumo Affair, but the house and garden continue to reflect their innovations and passions. We all had a brilliant time.
Walk through a landscape
We had a lovely time joining Holly and Marie-Therese from the Wallace Collection, for a virtual introduction to the Collection, followed by a sensory exploratory walk through one of the museum’s most famous landscape paintings. The Collection ranges from Old Master paintings to 18th century French furniture, arms and armour. We all had a wonderful time and cannot wait to put our creative skills to a test and paint some landscapes in the upcoming days.
Maintenance celebrates long service
A Maintenance at The Dales Care Home in Skipton has received a prestigious Long Service Award in celebration of working at Barchester Healthcare for 15 years.
Rolando De Lara, started at Barchester in March 2007 and has always been happy to help with any job around the home to ensure that needs have been met over the years.
International Women's Day
Residents and staff marked the International Women’s Day (IWD) by spending the day celebrating the achievements of wonderful trail-blazing women. IWD celebrates women’s contribution to society, raises awareness about the fight for gender parity and inspires support for organisations that support women globally.
Music for Health
A fabulous afternoon with Richard, it had been a while since we saw him last but we were straight back to Music for Health and looking forward to next time already.
Crazy for Crufts
We had a lovely day with PAT the Dog therapy with Mary and Cocoa, followed with cup of tea and cake. To finish the day we watched Crufts to judge our favourite do we could see but we couldn’t decide so every dog is a winner.
