Activities at Derham House Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Autumn At Derham House

At Derham House we are able to enjoy a variety of outdoor spaces including beautiful courtyards, a tranquil Memory Garden and an extensive lawn that is perfect for enjoying with the grandchildren.

Derham House looks gorgeous decked out in Autumnal colours, tendered with care by our gardening team.

,

Harvest Festival

With Harvest Festival approaching residents and staff got their creative hats on and decorated the front hallway of Derham House to reflect the season. Whilst Derham House made a great effort in the Barchester Harvest Festival Competition we were just beaten by another home's display.

Next stop will be creating a fantastic and festive Christmas enviroment in a few weeks time.

Memory Garden

Residents and staff have been keen to get involved in creating our new Memory Garden.

This tranquil and reflective space set in a quiet corner of our extensive garden is being created to allow residents to have somewhere to sit, reminisce and think about loved ones who are missed.

The new Memory Garden will feature a small tiled area. Today residents and staff have been decorating the tiles with the names of loved ones and images that evoke their favourite memories. The garden will be built by our hardworking garden and maintenance team and should look lovely once completed.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

Derham House joined the whole country in raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support by hosting an in-house coffee morning.

We had a remarkable range of delicious homemade cakes created by our talented staff.

The residents enjoyed cake, coffee and board games all in the name of raising money for a great cause.

End Of Summer Bash

Derham House was not going to let Covid stop us from celebrating our annual end of summer bash. Although we could not invite the families of residents this year, everyone still had a great time.

Residents and staff made the most of the beautiful garden which looked fabulous in the sunshine. We kicked the afternoon off with a fantastic BBQ cooked by our talented chef whilst our hostesses ensured that everyone's drinks stayed topped up throughout.

As we could not have our regular entertainer join us, our resident DJ Andy the maintenance man stepped in. He did a tremendous job playing all our favourite music, with young and old classics requested. Residents soon got the party started by getting up to dance to Saturday Night Fever, showing the staff how to own the dance floor.

Derham House would like to say a massive thank you to Ian Thompson for bringing us a pop-up gazebo it was very much appreciated.

Hopefully next year we will be able to invite our resident families to join us and make it an even bigger event.

Meet Our Goldfish

At Derham House, some new residents joined us on our Memory Lane community not the 2 legged kind or the 4 legged furry kind but the scaly fin kind.

The activities treated the residents to a fish tank & some goldfish to cheer them up through these tough times we are going through.

We thought it would be nice for the residents to also have some colourful stimulation & relaxation while sitting in their memory café.

We called one of them lucky as it escaped through another compartment & we couldn’t get him out so had to wait for him to swim out himself, hence the name 'Lucky'. The other three have been chosen via a lucky dip.
