Activities at Derham House Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Life at Derham House Care Home

Funky Nails

Funky Nails

At Derham house, we ladies had a great afternoon showing off our vibrant coloured nails. One resident was even brave enough to have gold glitter. Watch out next time, Gentlemen - you'll be next!

Moving forward, we will be having a regular beautician visit every Friday.

Roll out the Cinnamon

Roll out the Cinnamon

Residents enjoyed getting stuck in making cinnamon rolls! The smell lingered delightfully in the air and there were lots of umms of delight. They watched intently as the rolling commenced and just couldn’t wait to taste them. They were served warm with afternoon tea - perfect!

Horses Galore

Horses Galore

Residents enjoyed a trip to the local stables, where they gave the horses a real treat! The horses enjoyed munching their way through crunchy carrots and loved all the attention we gave them. They were very inquisitive and kept checking our pockets for more carrots.

Green Fingers

Green Fingers

Residents revelled in compost, flowers and sunshine - who could ask for more? They truly got stuck in, making wonderful pots and hanging baskets, with the warm rays of sun beaming down on them, which made for even more of a glorious time. The dirt was everywhere, but we didn’t care!

National Sandwich Day

National Sandwich Day

The Chefs at Derham House made their very own scrumptious sandwiches for all to enjoy. Everyone - residents, relatives and staff alike - enjoyed tucking into some traditional smoked salmon, egg & cress and cucumber sandwiches. Well done to the Chefs!

The Queen's Birthday Celebrations

The Queen's Birthday Celebrations

Derham house celebrated the Queen’s birthday in style with colourful bunting, balloons and a traditional tea party.

The Queen celebrates two birthdays every year: her actual birthday, on 21st April, and her official birthday, in June. The official birthday is held in the summer, as it means there’s a better chance of good weather for the ceremony, so watch out for another party to be held at Derham House!

The Queen’s official birthday is celebrated with a birthday parade, which is also known as 'Trooping the Colour'. During the ceremony, trained and fully operational troops from the Household Division greet the Queen with a royal salute. She then inspects the troops, riding past them in a carriage.
