Activities at Derham House Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Kay Thompson
I have worked in the care sector for many years. I am fully trained in dementia awareness, and I have also trained as a dignity champion. I have been working here at Derham House since March 2019, and I am really enjoying my role here.

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Derham House Care Home
90th Birthday Celebrations
Family and staff celebrated a resident's 90th birthday with an afternoon of smiles, tea and lots of cake! There was also plenty of singing along to her favourite music.
Comic Relief
Here at Derham House, all the staff dressed in red to celebrate Red Nose Day. Residents joined in with the fun by decorating cakes and telling some knock knock jokes. Relatives and staff also joined in a 'Guess how many red sweets are in the jar' competition.
Cockney Sing Along
We enjoyed a musical performance from a very talented gentleman: Del Mandel. Residents loved joining in with the singing and had a lot of fun clapping their hands and tapping their feet. Del Mandel performed for us with his banjo and told stories of the East End, which residents really liked hearing about.
We hope to see him back here again very soon!
Flower Arranging
At Derham House, residents from all of the units were able to join in with arranging the flowers, which were kindly donated by Sainsbury's in Hornchurch. It was a lovely morning that was enjoyed by all - there were big smiles from everyone!
We are hoping to enjoy many more mornings of this, creating displays of flowers with vibrant colours and a lovely smells.
Elvis Tribute
We had an Elvis tribute act visit Derham House recently, who residents thoroughly enjoyed.
Halloween
Folks at Derham House had a great time dressing up for Halloween.
