Activities at Dovedale Court Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Brian Sandham

Activities Coordinator

My name is Brian, I’m the activities coordinator down here at Dovedale. I’m new to the care sector, I’ve been a photographer and photography tutor since 2004 dealing with different ages groups and abilities.   I’m looking forward to putting my people skills to good use down here at Dovedale.

I might be new to the care sector but I’m super looking forward to spreading a bit of extra sunshine and cheer around the home.

Live lounge with Johnny Wright

Residents, family, and friends had a great time with upbeat showman and singer Johnny Wright who gave us all a great show and engaged with the room amazingly! We can't wait to have him back to sing for us again soon!

Halloween Celebrations

Residents and staff had a good time with Halloween crafting, pumpkin carving and putting together goodie bags. We opened our door to the public and had around 20 little visitors that evening who all went away with a few extra treats.

Gentleman's Club

Our gentleman love their regular ‘Gentleman’s Club’ and this week they enjoyed a beer and curry night whist enjoying watching Rocky (well Creed actually but Rocky was remembered). It was fun filled evening for all and they are looking forward to the next one!

A night at the Illuminations

We boarded the mini bus and off for our popular annual visit to see the illuminations.  With a full bus we took in the lights accompanied by Mcflurries ice-cream all round, which went down a treat!

We even spotted that stunning Spitfire on the round about. If you've not ventured that way yet this year then go pay it a visit. Blackpool has done a fab job this year.

Pamper time

The ladies visited our in house salon where they were treated to a sample of creams, lotions and spritzers with refreshments and nibbles in easy reach.  There was soothing music in the background.  The ladies shared their fond memories of their regular trips to the hairdressers and said “there was lots of gossip, chatter and laughter when you were there”.

Royal Botanic Garden

Our homes enjoyed a wonderful virtual tour of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh with Community Engagement Manager, Charlotte Walker, and Botanic Cottage Operations Co-ordinator, Laura Gallagher.

The residents were thrilled to learn more about the history of the beautiful Garden, which is now a home to an impressive plant collection from around the world.

Charlotte and Laura also gave a demonstration of making fresh herbal tea and were happy to answer our questions.  The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all who joined.
