Activities at Dudwell St Mary Care Home

Our activity coordinator provides our home with a fun-packed weekly programme to engage all residents. Past activities include bread making, pottery, knitting, and card making. Not only do we run regular exercise programmes for the residents but we also have our regular entertainers come in to entertain our residents and their families. The activity coordinator visits residents on a one-to-one basis, for a chat, manicure and hand massage. The activity co-ordinator said "Residents love the one-to-ones and especially enjoy the manicure and hand massage, as not only is it stimulating but it boosts their confidence and pride in their appearance.''

Linda Lawes

Activities Coordinator

My Name is Linda and I am one of the Activities Co-ordinators at Dudwell St. Mary care home.

I joined Dudwell St Mary in April 2008 as a Housekeeping Assistant and later became the Head of Housekeeping.  In 2018 I then became an activities co-ordinator where I brought lots of new exciting ideas to the role.

I am passionate about my role within the home and aim to bring a smile to all our residents’ faces through different types of activities. My personality is bright and bubbly so aim to share this each day at work.

As I gather the residents likes and dislikes if you would like to come and chat with me about your family member please contact the home to arrange.

Life at Dudwell St Mary Care Home

Visiting suite

Residents are overjoyed as our visiting suite continues to enable them to spend time with their loved ones. Balancing resident well being and safety is at the forefront of everyone's mind and we understand how important it is for residents and their family to be together.

Flower arranging Masterclass

The Residents at Dudwell just love the sight and smell of fresh flowers. So every week Staff buy an array of bouquets and everyone gets to design and fill new arrangments. They learn about the different types of those currently in bloom and reminisce of pottering around in their own gardens too.

Pancake flipping fun

On your marks. Residents and Staff had a brilliant day when celebrating Shrove Tuesday. Not only did they make, decorate and eat delicious pancakes. They also got together in teams and saw how many flips of the pancakes they could do in a minute. Everyone got a little competitive.

Hearts for Hugs

The lovely children from our local school, recently sent us heart pictures. They designed these with the idea in mind that you can replace the heart pictures instead of hugs right now. We know its not the same as the real thing but the smile it bought to our residents faces proved it was a pretty close second. It is so nice to know our local community are thinking about us.

Fresh bulbs from our local Garden Centre

Residents were lucky enough to receive a selection of plants from Petals our local garden centre. The plants will be potted up by the residents and bring a welcome source of colour and good cheer to the homes balconies and gardens. Activity Coordinator Lucie said “Many of our residents really enjoy gardening and flower arranging so this will keep their spirits up”.
