Activities at Dudwell St Mary Care Home
Our activity coordinator provides our home with a fun-packed weekly programme to engage all residents. Past activities include bread making, pottery, knitting, and card making. Not only do we run regular exercise programmes for the residents but we also have our regular entertainers come in to entertain our residents and their families. The activity coordinator visits residents on a one-to-one basis, for a chat, manicure and hand massage. The activity co-ordinator said "Residents love the one-to-ones and especially enjoy the manicure and hand massage, as not only is it stimulating but it boosts their confidence and pride in their appearance.''
Linda Lawes
My Name is Linda and I am one of the Activities Co-ordinators at Dudwell St. Mary care home.
I joined Dudwell St Mary in April 2008 as a Housekeeping Assistant and later became the Head of Housekeeping. In 2018 I then became an activities co-ordinator where I brought lots of new exciting ideas to the role.
I am passionate about my role within the home and aim to bring a smile to all our residents’ faces through different types of activities. My personality is bright and bubbly so aim to share this each day at work.
As I gather the residents likes and dislikes if you would like to come and chat with me about your family member please contact the home to arrange.

Life at Dudwell St Mary Care Home
Birds of Prey
On October 28th we had 1066 Falconry bring in their birds of prey. They were very popular with all the residents, with the little owl being the fan favourite.
Step Back in Time
Later in September we had been invited to an event in the village of Framfield, it was called ‘Step Back in Time’. We were invited to attend the village hall where we enjoyed songs from the 50’s all the way through to the 80’s, it was wonderful to hear them again and some of us even got up to dance.
After a wonderful afternoon of ‘stepping back in time’ we were treated with delicious cakes and tea served to us in fine bone china cups.
We all had a memorable afternoon and talked about it for days after with our families and friends.
Elvis Entertainment
In September we were entertained by one of our favourite, Elvis was in the building singing all our favourite songs. He swept us off our feet and danced with each and every one of us.
One resident, Jenny, was selected to have a special song sung just for her. Jenny was delighted and burst into the biggest smile.
All the residents enjoy the visit from Elvis as he is such a great entertainer and ensures that all of them get a turn to have a little dance or sing with him.
Pet Pals
On 12th of August our residents enjoyed a visit from our local ‘Pet Pals’ workshop. The ladies loved the bunnies who were very placid and enjoyed being stroked. Pet therapy is well known to have a calm, therapeutic effect and it is actively encouraged here!
Gin Tasting Afternoon
Our residents enjoyed the August ‘Gin Tasting‘ afternoon, which has now become a very popular monthly event! Our residents sampled the very wide range of new gins that are available and everyone enjoyed the afternoon! We are going to become even more adventurous in the coming months, exploring cocktails from around the globe.
Summer Fair
All residents thoroughly enjoyed our community fair where stalls were run by local village groups, as well as by the residents. Everyone had a lovely day in the beautiful sunshine, listening to Elvis!
