What our families say on carehome.co.uk

"My wife is unable to walk or stand (advanced MS) so "activities" are not relevant. She is a bit 'fussy' about food and is gluten intolerant. However, the home went to great lengths to provide her with a choice at each meal. This was a 3 week respite care that was mostly paid for by my local council, cannot comment on value for money."

"The professional and caring approach we have experienced as a family is outstanding from all staff members. Due to geographical distances between our family and the care home, ensuring health and happiness, safety, healthy and proactive support is of primary concern. This is received in abundance at Ford Mill so we need not worry knowing our relative is happy both mentally and physically."

"I found the staff and facilities at the home very supportive and the care dignified at the latter stage of my mother's life. Also, the activities and food were very much enjoyed by my late mother. Both management and staff were careing and kind at the time mum was there."

"My mother had been a resident at Fordmill for 2 years 8 months prior to her death earlier this month. Whilst I am saddened at the loss of my mother I take great comfort in the knowledge that not only did my mother receive the highest standards of care during her stay, but she was also very happy there. My mother fully immersed herself in all the activities and day trips, and whilst the various lockdowns were a terrible time for the residents, the staff went well beyond what was expected of them with their care, ensuring their physical and mental well being of the residents was maintained. The home employed a variety of means to ensure families were kept up to date with developments. Individually or as a team, all the staff are worthy of mention. The various departments come together to create a synergy and positive flow that radiates throughout the care home. A truly dedicated, compassionate team who delivers genuine care for their residents. I commend Fordmill and its magnificent team to all."

Their hard work, commitment, dedication and professionalism in providing services, care and support, will always be appreciated. Fordmill was always kept in immaculate condition, food excellent and activities provided of a very high standard. Thank you again, and I highly recommend."

"Fordmill Care Home is fantastic. The staff are really friendly and professional. Just returned from celebrating the Queen’s Jubilee in the beautiful Fordmil garden, a fantastic family day spent with loved ones. Thank you to the staff and management for creating a memorable day."

"My father spent nearly six months in Fordmill Care Home. He was well looked after. If there were any concerns about Dad, they would phone straight away. The staff were very caring and helpful. My father was 97. He was well fed and given first-class care."

"Our friend was in Fordmill Care Home for five months and passed away while residing there. He was young, so found the food was very bland and uninteresting. The care he received was good and the manager was fabulous with him. Trying to accommodate his food choices. For the money, we thought the rooms were basic with no private shower facilities."

"My mother went into care at Barchester Fordmill Care Home in Montrose at the end of September and only spent a few weeks there until she died on the 11th of November. The staff at Fordmill Care Home have been excellent and our family cannot fault the care she received in her last few weeks. The manager, nursing team, care workers, and domestic and catering staff are a fantastic advert for Fordmill Care Home. Their care and compassion extend to families as well as those in their care and we have really appreciated the concern shown for us throughout her stay, particularly in her last days and since, even approaching us in the street in their own time to ask how we were doing after her passing. They are all a credit to the care profession."

"Mum was admitted to Fordmill Care Home in September 2022 initially for respite care, and transferred to a permanent resident two weeks later. Everything was sorted out by the Fordmill management team taking a considerable worry away from myself and the wider family. Knowing mum was going to be well cared for in a well-run nursing home that she liked was a great comfort to myself and my family. The staff are exceptional and whilst you would like to specifically mention those who have directly interacted with the family it would be unfair, as all staff encountered were in my mind exceptional, making the home welcoming, friendly and demonstrating an eagerness to provide a first-class level of care. I cannot praise the management, care team and support staff enough. Even visits in the early hours of the morning were greeted with a smile and an offer of tea or coffee."

"The initial introduction to Barchester Fordmill Care Home was for respite care which then moved to permanent placement. The staff at all levels have provided my mother with the compassionate care that is so important to her family at this difficult time."

"It is such a joy to see one of your loved ones being cared for by every member of staff. Nothing is to much trouble and the staff go out of their way to help with all my granny's needs. Couldn't be happier and would highly recommend."

"Unfortunately, my mother was only in Fordmill for 17 days prior to her passing. I am unable to comment further on the home due to the circumstances we found ourselves in. I'm sure my mother would have enjoyed the activities that were on offer. During the time we did have at the home, the staff not only looked after mum so well but us her family. They showed great respect and dignity to my mother during her end of life care."

"My husband and I were greeted warmly and offered refreshments and personal time to acclimatise to new surroundings. All employees (domestic, catering and exceptional nursing staff-all grades) were respectful and caring of our needs including emotional support. The manager and all staff are a credit to the establishment. During my husband's stay, he received exceptional care, respect and dignity and was comfortable with the care he received. Great concern was shown to me and my son. A simple thank you to all at Fordmill isn't enough."

"Mum was a resident for 16 months until sadly, she passed away. From day one, the care, attention and professionalism shown to Mum, myself and the rest of the family were second to none. From the manager and management team to the nurses, carers, housekeeping and catering staff, with a special mention to the activities coordinator who gave Mum a renewed lease of life in her last year and a half."

"Mum was admitted to Fordmill after falling during the night at home resulting in a shattered elbow at the age of almost 92 years old. She was admitted for respite care and found the staff, home environment, daily activities and management to be first-class. The quality of care during her stay made a difficult time much easier for me."

"I have had relatives in several care homes and none of them come close to being as good as Fordmill. Relatives are well looked after, and always kept clean and tidy. Laundry comes back to the correct person and rooms are kept clean and tidy too. Lots of activities going on and staff interacting with residents. Food and drinks are always available. Well done all at Fordmill."

"What can I say - from the minute we walked out of the lift to Mum's sad passing ten days later, we received nothing but pure kindness, care and compassion. An excellent team of fantastic staff from domestics to managers and everyone in between. Giving us endless reassurance, fun and great banter, just what we all needed. I cannot thank them all enough."

"My sister was in Barchester Fordmill for two weeks for respite care while I was away. The rooms and general areas are spotless and her room was lovely and bright and comfortable. The staff were all very kind and caring, particularly the manager and the head of unit. My sister said the food was delicious and that she also particularly enjoyed sitting out in the gardens, which are beautiful. Thank you to everyone at Barchester Fordmill for making her stay so comfortable and for taking such good care of her."

"My father-in-law was in Fordmill for a week of respite care (for the first time at age 97) and he was very well cared for during his stay. The team were very welcoming and so helpful and friendly putting him at ease. Food was plentiful, good home-style cooking which he enjoyed. We were grateful that time was taken to find out more about his younger days/his likes/dislikes and his routine at home meaning as a family we could relax and recharge for a few days knowing he was in safe hands. The caring staff met all of his needs in a safe homely environment and treated with the dignity and respect that his generation deserves and for this we are truly grateful."

"All Fordmill staff at all levels have been unfailingly professional, polite, courteous and helpful. My brother was always treated with respect and dignity, and the overall level of care he received was excellent. The only slight negative was that, in my opinion, my brother's room was somewhat tired and would benefit from a 'freshen up'. Overall, Fordmill Care Home is an excellent facility, and all staff should be complimented."

"Initially, we (my siblings and I) were apprehensive about the next stage of our mother's care. We wanted her to be in a safe, warm environment with the view of assessing her needs holistically. The homely, warm and welcoming atmosphere as you enter Barchester Fordmill Care Home gave me reassurance. It is lovely to see my mother mixing with not only staff but other clients too. In areas for relaxing, dining, entertainment/activities and areas for socialising with her family as well as her own room which she can retire to at any time. I’ve witnessed the staff reassuring my mother and the laughter together, which is lovely to see as it is a big step in the next chapter of her life. Knowing that she is being looked after by such a caring team and I mean by all members of staff is heartwarming from her family's point of view. Thank you."

"Our mum moved into Fordmill in October. She was known to be difficult but all of the staff have been accommodating and saw to Mum's needs at all times. She was always treated with care and compassion and, whilst she was at the end of life, all staff treated us all with care and compassion and ensured we were always offered food and drinks. Exceptional."

"I only saw caring, compassionate and friendly staff who were focused on making my mum's stay as comfortable as possible. They also tried to ensure that they knew her individually, especially her likes/dislikes. When Mum became unwell, they were quick to treat her and involve the family and together do what was right for her. During Mum’s end-of-life care, all the staff were exceptional. They were also very kind to our family, continually checking if we were doing ok and providing us with refreshments."

"Mum enjoys participating in the various activities and socialising with her peers. The staff are kind, friendly and helpful. Mum likes the food and enjoys the company of the other residents in the dining room at mealtimes. The GP, hairdresser, dentist and chiropodist visit the home as required by the residents. Visitors are made to feel welcome. Mum is well cared for."

"Throughout our grans stay at Barchester Fordmill Care Home, she has received the utmost high standard of care. Staff have practised very well, always adapting a person-centred approach. Our gran resided in Fordmill for over three years. Throughout that time, she built some great relationships with the Fordmill staff team. Meals and visiting were always lovely with visitors being offered beverages. Thank you Fordmill."

"My dad is staying in the Fordmill Care Home. The staff are professional and polite to both my dad and to visitors, putting everyone at ease. My dad is treated with respect and dignity, and the level of care he receives is excellent. Great areas for relaxing, dining, entertainment/activities, and areas for socialising. We attended the music band celebrations, the lady who hosted it was fantastic, we had a great afternoon, and we all enjoyed it! Took advantage of the lovely gardens and sat outside with Dad in the sunshine, as staff passed they stopped to chat, so friendly. Highly recommend this lovely care home."

"My grandmother lived to a fruitful 99. In her last couple of years, she stayed at Barchester Fordmill Care Home and the recovery she had since the day she joined was incredible. She was able to share her beautiful smile again after years of hardship and I can't thank the amazing Fordmill staff enough. Thank you for bringing out the best in my granny again. "This was the first time we had used respite care. Putting it mildly my husband was very apprehensive and very reluctant. I was extremely anxious. From the start, everyone was very reassuring and professional but friendly and helpful. The surroundings were so comfortable and homely, were more like a hotel than a residential home. I left my husband fully confident he would get excellent care. This proved so right. After his week at Fordmill, he came home full of praise for all the staff. Very positive about his experience there, with no negative comments at all and the fact he told the family he would go back says it all!"

"My husband and I were visiting my mum from the USA. Each time we visit we are always delighted with the care my mum receives. Her individual needs are met but Barchester Fordmill Care Home goes far beyond that. The quality and variety of food is exceptional and is made with pride and obvious care, beginning with the table settings being at a standard to behold the feast that is about to arrive. The daily activities are organised with thoughtful ideas on how best to encourage our family members to use their skills while having fun. When we visited daily there was a lot of activity, laughter and a very family-minded atmosphere between the residents and amazing staff. We were made to feel very welcome and there was always a nice selection of refreshments for us to enjoy. A really superb facility that gives us great peace of mind that our mum has a loving, caring place she calls home. Thank you Fordmill staff, you are a blessing to us all."

"After a fall at home which necessitated a hospital stay and then some time in a rehabilitation unit, my Mum moved into Fordmill six months ago. She was apprehensive and anxious about the move but with the excellent care and support of the lovely manager and other staff, she soon settled in and now feels at home there. Fordmill is set in a large quiet garden and everywhere is spotlessly clean and well maintained, laundry has a super quick turnaround, food is plentiful and varied and visitors are always made to feel welcome. The abundance of entertainment and activities available are imaginative and very well organised by enthusiastic staff who gently encourage residents to join in with no pressure to do so. I feel that my Mum is treated with respect and dignity and well looked after by all the friendly, helpful staff and have no hesitation in recommending Fordmill for respite or long-term care. We are so lucky to have such an excellent nursing home in Montrose."

"Really happy with the care mum received whilst staying at Fordmill Care Home. The home was immaculate, very welcoming and staff were always extremely helpful. Mum is a very picky eater and follows a gluten free diet. The kitchen staff were always extremely helpful in offering alternative meals to suit mums taste and dietary requirements. Mum had a lovely warm, clean room with her own TV. Mum has said that the staff were brilliant."
