What our families say on carehome.co.uk

"My aunt was at Barchester Fordmill Care Home for three weeks respite, the care and kindness shown to her was fantastic. The staff are all so welcoming and look so happy. The activities coordinator and her team work so hard to entertain the residents. It's a very well-led team. The manager and administrator made the process so easy and are so efficient and communicative. This is a wonderful home and I could thoroughly recommend it."

"Mum had plenty of activities and good company during her stay. Staff were very attentive to Mum. Care home was suitable for Mum's needs. She knew some of the residents which made it more enjoyable. Easy for visitors to come and go. I think she enjoyed her food as well."

"We had another lovely afternoon at Barchester Fordmill Care Home, celebrating my friend's birthday. The social team, kitchen team and all the staff did her proud. The entertainment on this occasion and generally, was first-class. Birthday cake tasted excellent."

"I cannot rate Fordmill highly enough. Mum was cared for with compassion and dignity from day one. The care home is immaculately clean, the staff helpful and friendly and the food tasty and plentiful. The Entertainment Coordinators have a wealth of events and activities to keep the residents busy, there's never a dull day at Fordmill! Ultimately, we had peace of mind. Mum had the highest standard of care and felt loved by everyone around her. Thank you all."

"I couldn't be more happy with the staff and facilities at this care home. They allowed my mother to enjoy her time and keep her dignity until she sadly passed away this month. Mum lived at the care home for just over two years. We knew she was safe and well looked after at all times. Excellent."

"My grandmother lived to a fruitful 99. In her last couple of years, she stayed at Barchester Fordmill Care Home and the recovery she had since the day she joined was incredible. She was able to share her beautiful smile again after years of hardship and I can't thank the amazing Fordmill staff enough. Thank you for bringing out the best in my granny again. We shall remember my granny forever and always."

"I cannot praise staff highly enough. From the time my mother entered Barchester Fordmill Care Home until her death, they were attentive, caring and so good to her. She enjoyed her time there mixing with everyone but still with her own room for privacy when she wanted. I felt safe in my mind that she was getting the care, love and attention she needed."

"As a retired home manager, I was very impressed with the quality of care and the dedication of the staff at the home. I was made very welcome. The home was clean and welcoming. Food could rival any hotels around Montrose. Activities offered to the residents were well chosen by a competent activities organiser."

"After a fall at home which necessitated a hospital stay and then some time in a rehabilitation unit, my Mum moved into Fordmill six months ago. She was apprehensive and anxious about the move but with the excellent care and support of the lovely manager and other staff, she soon settled in and now feels at home there. Fordmill is set in a large quiet garden and everywhere is spotlessly clean and well maintained, laundry has a super quick turnaround, food is plentiful and varied and visitors are always made to feel welcome. The abundance of entertainment and activities available are imaginative and very well organised by enthusiastic staff who gently encourage residents to join in with no pressure to do so. I feel that my Mum is treated with respect and dignity and well looked after by all the friendly, helpful staff and have no hesitation in recommending Fordmill for respite or long-term care. We are so lucky to have such an excellent nursing home in Montrose."

"My husband and I were visiting my mum from the USA. Each time we visit we are always delighted with the care my mum receives. Her individual needs are met but Barchester Fordmill Care Home goes far beyond that. The quality and variety of food is exceptional and is made with pride and obvious care, beginning with the table settings being at a standard to behold the feast that is about to arrive. The daily activities are organised with thoughtful ideas on how best to encourage our family members to use their skills while having fun. When we visited daily there was a lot of activity, laughter and a very family-minded atmosphere between the residents and amazing staff. We were made to feel very welcome and there was always a nice selection of refreshments for us to enjoy. A really superb facility that gives us great peace of mind that our mum has a loving, caring place she calls home. Thank you Fordmill staff, you are a blessing to us all."

"Dad had been settled in Fordmill for some time and received excellent care, love and understanding during his battle with Alzheimer's, the staff were so patient and made sure his needs were always met. Sadly when the end came that same level of care and love were very present, in these COVID times we obviously could not visit as often as we would have liked but our hearts were overflowing to see and know the depth of compassion, care and love that Dad was receiving. Staff on their knees by his bedside singing to him, just the best! Forever grateful."

"My uncle stayed in Fordmill during the latter stages of his life. The staff there were kind and provided him with first class care and attention. The family were made welcome and afforded privacy when needed. The home was well kept, clean and meals were lovely home cooked fare. There were many and varied daily activities which the residents enjoyed. Overall the home had a lovely atmosphere and I would definitely recommend it."

"My Mum went into Fordmill for respite initially due to her dementia, as my Dad was hospitalised and not able to care for her. They both became permanent residents four years ago. Unfortunately, Dad passed away and Mum has remained in the care of the excellent care staff who show dignity and respect at all times. I cannot thank them enough for the care they provide."

"Very friendly place. My mum has really settled in. The staff are really good. They listen when you ask them questions and are there to help at any time. I admire the hob that they all do at the home. Everyone plays a huge part in making my mum happy and making her feel as if she is at her own home. Excellent!"

"My wife was a resident from June 2015 to February 2018. All staff were kind and friendly and very professional at all times. The home was clean and well maintained at all times. Meals excellent and varied. The atmosphere was homely and cheery. Also a mention for the beautifully maintained garden area. I will always be grateful for the care and support shown to us by all at Fordmill Care Home."

"Have always found that the care is given without any problems. The lady I visit is not always easy to care for as her mind/memory is very limited. Very frustrating for her and all that have to deal with her. She loves her food and thinks that her meals are excellent. I always find the staff very friendly and helpful."

"My sister has been resident in Fordmill Care Home for almost three years and I visit her on a weekly basis. Throughout that time I have been met with friendliness and pleasantness from staff. I appreciate the care that is given to my sister and the manner in which she is treated by and spoken to by the carers. I am reassured that my sister is in a safe environment and is looked after by a caring staff."

"Dad was admitted to Fordmill as an emergency on a temporary basis. From the time we arrived at the car park, the staff took over and during his time there, could not have done more to make Dad's stay any better. Dad was there approx 5 weeks when he passed away. The care and dedication the staff gave him made his last weeks comforting. Mum and I were with Dad when he passed and the staff looked after us well."

"The care my mum received at Fordmill was excellent (6 years). The palliative care she received and the care we received ourselves at such a time was excellent. Mum passed peacefully with dignity due to the nursing care."

"Mum only had a short time at Fordmill as she was very poorly when she was admitted. However, all the staff, from the laundry girls to the manager were so kind and friendly and couldn't do enough to make my Mum and the family feel comfortable and cared for. Mum had a lovely room looking over the garden - I only wish she had been well enough to enjoy it. We can't thank the manager and her team enough for looking after Mum so well in her last few weeks."

"Has been difficult since Covid reared its ugly head, but the home has gone above and beyond to keep the residents safe and ensure that loved ones were able to keep in touch via Zoom and phone calls. We could not have expected any more from each and every member of the team and are completely appreciative of all aspects of care received."

"From what I have seen and experienced the home is well maintained and very well managed. The nurses and carers are efficient and respectful whilst being friendly. During her last days, my mother was treated with dignity and compassion. The staff were all courteous and friendly during this most difficult time of the Covid19 lockdown. They gave me time and listened to my questions, nothing was too much trouble."

"The service provided by all staff was superb. Care and attention to detail second to none. My Nanny was a resident for a long time and we had a number of staff change, but the service with a smile never changed. The sense of humour and rapport that Nanny had with the team made me laugh. Always ready to offer a cuppy and cake (ML home makes were amazing). Thank you, everyone."

"Mum has with Fordmill for a number of years now and has always been extremely well looked after. In fact, she has now passed her 97th birthday (July) and I am sure this would not have been possible if it hadn't been for the superb care the staff at Fordmill provide to her. During the COVID issue, the staff have been especially wonderful and have supported both mum and me and made virtual contact an easy process, so that I can see how well she is. Thank you all, especially, the manager - an angel !!"

"Although Mum and Dad have been settled very happily in Fordmill for some time now, this review is directly related to the past few months during the recent COVID crisis. Absolutely everything has been maintained to a very high standard to ensure the safety of the residents. The staff has worked so hard. Their dedication never failing to support residents in all their needs. Safety, cleanliness, approachability, but most of all care and love. As a family knowing they are well looked after means the world to us. Fordmill is home from home. A lovely friendly, caring place in which I would recommend highly."

"Whenever I visited my mother she was well cared for. She was always beautifully dressed in clothes she would have chosen herself if her sight had been better. As I live overseas staff were always helpful when I phones, making sure my mother could hear and the general manager kept me appraised of her health by email. I have to thank the staff who tried to make my mother's last year more comfortable, a difficult job as her dementia changed her."
