Activities at Four Hills Care Home
Our activity and lifestyle programme is arranged for all our residents to participate in and is updated regularly based on ideas from our residents group during our resident forum. Our Resident of the Day strategy ensures each person receives at least one day each month where the focus is all about them.
We have a monthly concert and to date this is appreciated and enjoyed by most residents. The Four Hills Taverns is open for business every Friday afternoon and is an area where residents and staff socialise, hold pub quizzes and partake in a little refreshment.
The team at Four Hills try hard to meet everyone's needs and encourage all residents and their families to join in the fun.

Life at Four Hills Care Home
Diving into the blue
Staff and residents at Barchester’s Four Hills care home in Glasgow were treated to a virtual tour of the wonderful underwater world of SEA LIFE London Aquarium, hosted by Senior Curator, James Wright and his expert team.
SEA LIFE London Aquarium is home to more than 300 species and 4,000 creatures, including Gentoo Penguins, Sea Turtles and Seahorses, which are cared for by its dedicated team of 15 Aquarists. The shark tank alone is one million litres in volume and six metres deep and is home to five species of sharks – Sand Tigers called Bungle and Zippy, a Grey Reef Shark, Nurse Sharks, Tawny Nurse Shark and a shiver of Black Tip Reef Sharks as well as a Bowmouth Guitarfish called Betty.
Intergenerational links with local school
Residents at Four Hills in Glasgow enjoy a varied life enrichment calendar including intergenerational links with their local community. Throughout the pandemic the home have maintained these relationships and residents have enjoyed sharing colourful messages in anticipation of the children from High Park Primary School’s garden visit.
Prior to lockdown the group had worked together to create a colourful patchwork banner, which had been sewed together with letters and flowers added. Everyone was delighted with the finished product and look forward to welcoming the children back in the future!
Families reconnect
For residents at Four Hills care home in Glasgow, the long awaited reunion with two family members has become a reality, as two named visitors are now allowed to visit each resident in their bedroom. Family members must visit separately, at different times.
There has been much anticipation of this moment by families and residents alike. Guidance was issued by the Scottish Government at the end of February and Barchester Healthcare, who run Glasgow care home, is proceeding with a safe and cautious approach to visiting. Strict protocols are in place with all visitors required to have a negative Lateral Flow Device test result before being allowed into the home, and infection control measures and social distancing in place for every visit.
Despite the need for testing and social distancing, it was still welcome news for so many residents and their family members to be able to meet in the comfort of their bedroom.
Finding the pairs fun
Residents at Four Hills enjoy a varied life enrichment programme to keep the mind, body and soul active. Each day there are popular group activities bringing everyone together along with individual Resident centred activities.
Residents enjoyed a fun filled afternoon of ‘pair’s and matching the cards. High on the agenda and lots of fun is their popular game sessions.

Scone baking masterclass
Residents from Four Hills enjoyed an afternoon of scone making as part of their baking masterclass which took them back to their younger years. Baking sessions are a popular activity for the home and the activity had taste buds tingling.
Lindsay McCulloch, General Manager said: “The residents enjoyed getting creative with their baking as it not only brings back memories of their childhood, but also times when they’ve baked with their own children and grandchildren. Once all the scones were baked, we all enjoyed sitting down with a cup of tea and deciding if it was jam or cream first!.”
Intergenerational links
Residents at Four Hills have recently enjoyed an intergenerational link with the children from local school, High Park Primary School. The residents had a great time in sharing ‘Scottish’ words and phrases as the children learnt the new words and their meaning. It was a fun-filled virtual session as everyone joined in the guessing game!
We have also shared a short video to the school for the children to enjoy. One resident, William a retired teacher was delighted to join in and said “children don’t learn a lot of their Scottish heritage these days”.
