Activities at Four Hills Care Home

Our activity and lifestyle programme is arranged for all our residents to participate in and is updated regularly based on ideas from our residents group during our resident forum. Our Resident of the Day strategy ensures each person receives at least one day each month where the focus is all about them.

We have a monthly concert and to date this is appreciated and enjoyed by most residents. The Four Hills Taverns is open for business every Friday afternoon and is an area where residents and staff socialise, hold pub quizzes and partake in a little refreshment.

The team at Four Hills try hard to meet everyone's needs and encourage all residents and their families to join in the fun.

Life at Four Hills Care Home

Home say fond farewell after 20-years!

After almost 20-years of continuous service at Four Hills in Glasgow, much-loved domestic, Mary has decided to retire.

Staff and residents at the home sent Mary off in style with champagne and presents to thank her for many years of dedication.  Everyone at the home has very fond memories of Mary and she will be sadly missed. The home are looking forward to Mary popping in from time-to-time to say hello as covid19 restrictions lift.  Good luck for the future Mary!

Easter bonnet competition

Staff and residents at Four Hills in Glasgow were busy scheduling a variety of Easter themed activities for all residents to enjoy during the holiday.

In the UK Easter is one of the major Christian festivals of the year. It is full of customs and celebrations. However, Easter in Britain has its beginnings long before the arrival of Christianity. Many theologians believe Easter itself is named after the Anglo-Saxon goddess of the dawn and spring - Eostre

Over the years, many Easter traditions have taken shape, everything from chocolate bunnies to Easter egg hunts.

To celebrate Easter in style, the home was decorated with Easter eggs, bunnies and colourful banners to bring positivism and holiday spirit. Team members and residents also created a beautiful Ester display to cheer everyone up.

Residents hosts party for carer

Residents and staff at  Four Hills give one of the homes carers, Lisa Cartwright a lovely baby shower as she heads off on to maternity leave as she waits the arrival of her son.  Residents and staff had great fun playing pin the dummy on the baby and we enjoyed a lovely buffet and cakes…  We all wish Lisa and her family a safe arrival and we can’t wait to see photos of the baby…

Diving into the blue

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Four Hills care home in Glasgow were treated to a virtual tour of the wonderful underwater world of SEA LIFE London Aquarium, hosted by Senior Curator, James Wright and his expert team.

SEA LIFE London Aquarium is home to more than 300 species and 4,000 creatures, including Gentoo Penguins, Sea Turtles and Seahorses, which are cared for by its dedicated team of 15 Aquarists. The shark tank alone is one million litres in volume and six metres deep and is home to five species of sharks – Sand Tigers called Bungle and Zippy, a Grey Reef Shark, Nurse Sharks, Tawny Nurse Shark and a shiver of Black Tip Reef Sharks as well as a Bowmouth Guitarfish called Betty.

Intergenerational links with local school

Residents at Four Hills in Glasgow enjoy a varied life enrichment calendar including intergenerational links with their local community.   Throughout the pandemic the home have maintained these relationships and residents have enjoyed sharing colourful messages in anticipation of the children from High Park Primary School’s garden visit.

Prior to lockdown the group had worked together to create a colourful patchwork banner, which had been sewed together with letters and flowers added. Everyone was delighted with the finished product and look forward to welcoming the children back in the future!

Families reconnect

For residents at Four Hills care home in Glasgow, the long awaited reunion with two family members has become a reality, as two named visitors are now allowed to visit each resident in their bedroom.  Family members must visit separately, at different times.

There has been much anticipation of this moment by families and residents alike.  Guidance was issued by the Scottish Government at the end of February and Barchester Healthcare, who run Glasgow care home, is proceeding with a safe and cautious approach to visiting. Strict protocols are in place with all visitors required to have a negative Lateral Flow Device test result before being allowed into the home, and infection control measures and social distancing in place for every visit.

Despite the need for testing and social distancing, it was still welcome news for so many residents and their family members to be able to meet in the comfort of their bedroom.
