Activities at Henford House Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in, as well as visits from PAT dogs, musicians and entertainers. We also host evenings such as our cheese & wine nights, pub evening, quiz nights and special occasions such as, Guy Fawkes, Easter and Christmas where we like to encourage relatives to come to. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained, and that life at Henford House is fun and active.

Debbie Phillips

Activities Coordinator

I joined Henford House in March 2014; after five and a half years of domiciliary care, this position became available at Henford and I decided that it would be great to do more of the fun things in life with residents! It is great here at the home; we get along so well and truly have some laughs. Residents have a wide range of activities to participate in each week, including armchair exercises, bingo sessions, singalongs, musical entertainment, pottery, manicures, celebrations and much more. It is very rewarding knowing that people are grateful for the work I've done when I go. Working here has also given me the opportunity to gain my Level 2 NAPA certificate.

Wine and Cheese Tasting

The ladies had a lovely get together trying different cheeses and of course washed down with fine wines

Porridge Delivery

Special delivery!

Thank you so much Louise Norton and David Scales from Lower Pertwood farm who gifted Henford House Care Home boxes and boxes of fabulous organic porridge oats. Our residents love it.

Lower Perwood Farm in Whiltshire has been proudly organic for more than 30 years. Not only does this mean healthier crops but the benefit to wildlife is strong.

Louise and David have invited our residents and staff to visit their beautiful farm that sits in 772 acres of land. The farm boasts rolling green hills, colourful flowers and a abundance of wildlife.

Easter

Easter cracked off to a good start with our little chicks hatching and the residents enjoyed observing and holding them, every year we get an incubator kit from the company Incredible eggs and each day is exciting to see another chick hatch! Our traditional Egg hunt open to the community went ahead since the last one which took place in 2019, was really refreshing for the residents to watch and invite their families to join in, we also held a cake sale and a raffle, first prize was the Easter egg hamper donated by Morrisons and all proceeds are going to Warminster MS centre. Lots of Easter craft taken place and musical entertainment on Good Friday with Ukulele Piddle.

St Patrick's Day

Staff and residents at the home marked the day by making shamrock decorations, learning some Irish words and phrases, learning Irish dances, and listening to Irish music. The Kitchen prepared a fantastic Irish spread with avocado devilled eggs, Irish stew, soda bread, steak & Guinness pie, colcannon and Irish apple crumble all washed down with Guinness or an Irish whiskey.

Ladies Day Out

Some of our lovely ladies had a trip out to Trowbridge garden center this week and could not have picked a better day for glorious sunshine and bright blue skies! The first stop was at the garden center cafe for scrumptious cake, tea and coffee to prepare for the retail therapy in the centers new refurbed shop, as the weather was so good, an enjoyable walk outside to observe all the plants and flowers went down a treat!

Tropical Discovery

The residents had a wonderful afternoon making a fuss of rather unusual characters that were not the fluffy type of pets!

Kris who is the head ranger for Tropical Discovery delivers workshops to schools, care homes and private parties, so individuals can learn, observe and handle many different reptiles and giant insects.

Kris has visited Henford House a number of times over the years and each visit is just as interesting as always.
