Activities at Henford House Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in, as well as visits from PAT dogs, musicians and entertainers. We also host evenings such as our cheese & wine nights, pub evening, quiz nights and special occasions such as, Guy Fawkes, Easter and Christmas where we like to encourage relatives to come to. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained, and that life at Henford House is fun and active.

Debbie Phillips

Activities Coordinator

I joined Henford House in March 2014; after five and a half years of domiciliary care, this position became available at Henford and I decided that it would be great to do more of the fun things in life with residents! It is great here at the home; we get along so well and truly have some laughs. Residents have a wide range of activities to participate in each week, including armchair exercises, bingo sessions, singalongs, musical entertainment, pottery, manicures, celebrations and much more. It is very rewarding knowing that people are grateful for the work I've done when I go. Working here has also given me the opportunity to gain my Level 2 NAPA certificate.

Steam Trainspotting

Steam Trainspotting

Every Wednesday, residents have the opportunity to go to East Somerset Railway to watch the steam train arrive and depart. It leaves the station at 3:30 p.m., so we go on this outing once a week so that every resident gets to witness this.

Live Entertainment

Live Entertainment

Robin has been playing to residents for a number of years now. He interacts well with them, and is always having a laugh, joke or a singalong.

Henford Magic

Henford residents & loved ones enjoyed a visit from a magician recently, who made some fantastic balloon models. He performed a few magic tricks before making the models, which included an octopus, a monkey on a tree, an alien and lots more. He then went around the home making more models for the residents in their rooms.

Celebrations at Henford House

Celebrations at Henford House

Big celebrations were under way at Henford House on Sunday 21st May as resident, David, celebrated his 101st birthday.

David and his wife, Elizabeth, came to Henford House in 2016. It wasn’t an easy thing for them to move out of their home, but they have settled in very well. They eat lunch with fellow residents in the dining room daily and enjoy the activities that are organised. Elizabeth, being an artist, enjoys the pottery sessions each week, and both of them particularly bonded with our owls that came to visit us.

David and Elizabeth have 4 children who visit and support them and gathered their friends and family to come and celebrate David’s birthday with him and his wife.

Easter Egg Hunt

Staff, residents and their guests celebrated Easter with an Easter egg hunt! The children set off at 11:00am to search the grounds for hidden eggs and bunnies.

Leading up to Easter, the residents had been busy making their Easter bonnets for the parade and decorating their Easter cake for the Barchester Easter Cake Competition!

When the hunt was over, the exhausted children gathered in the reception area for refreshments and then showed the residents in the lounge, who had been watching them, their great Easter finds!

The Easter raffle was drawn and the proceeds will be sent to Julia’s House, who we are fundraising for this year.

A roast lamb lunch was enjoyed, and we loved Sophie, who delighted us with her performance on the piano and accordion.

World Poetry Day

World Poetry Day

Residents at Henford House created a poem as part of World Poetry Day on Tuesday 21st March 2017. Every part of the poem was written by residents and they all had good fun putting it together.
