Activities at Kirkburn Court Care Home
Here at Kirkburn Court, we aim to facilitate a personalised programme of meaningful activities, which are designed to promote independence, social stimulation and cognitive function. We strive to create a comfortable and safe environment where fun, creativity and individuality are encouraged. We feel it is important for us and residents to place value on yesterday, today and tomorrow – which is why we invest heavily in getting to know residents and learning their life history.
Our inclusive, yet respectful ethos is reflected in the wide range of activities we offer – ranging from larger structured group activities to one-to-one sessions. Our monthly activity programmes are extremely varied, but some of the activities you may expect to find include concerts, crafts, games, exercise sessions, reminiscing and outings. We also have a strong relationship with the local community and often invite external guests into the home, including performers, schools, and choirs.

Claire Burden
I began my career with Barchester in December 2017. Having worked within the teaching profession for the preceding 8 years, I feel that I bring a range of transferable skills to the activities team.
I strongly believe that the provision of activities is about so much more than just structured, planned events – capturing and celebrating the little moments in daily life, such as enjoying a chat and a cup of tea together, are equally as important.
Activities, no matter how big or small, should be at the heart of every home and that individuality should be celebrated. In addition, I feel that activities should take a person-centred approach, which is why I enjoy spending time with the residents and learning about their preferences and their history.
My own interests include football, politics, crafting and drinking tea, and I enjoy nothing better than engaging with residents on these topics! I aim to bring energy, a friendly smile and a willing ear to the home each day.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Kirkburn Court Care Home

Christmas Parties
During December, we hosted our annual Christmas parties in both Memory Lane and Buchan Neuk. We were delighted to welcome back Calum for our musical entertainment. We had a couple of brilliant afternoons and the dancefloor was never empty - including old favourites like the Slosh and the Conga! It was great for staff, residents and their families to come together in celebration and lots of fun and laughter was shared. A few naps were required later on to recover from all the food and dancing!

Christmas Ladies and Gents Outings
During December, some of our ladies and gents have enjoyed outings to some of our local pubs. The gents visited Wetherspoons and drams were enjoyed to celebrate the festive season. The ladies visited The North Bar where a few different Christmas cocktails were sampled. It was lovely that so many staff members were able to join the residents and many laughs were shared around the table. Impromptu sing- alongs and dancing added to the festive spirit of the afternoons!

Christmas Lunch Outings
During December, some of our residents enjoyed an outing to the Loch View Cafe in Crimond for Christmas Lunch. We were greeted with a lovely festive table and were treated to a delicious three course lunch. Out residents thoroughly enjoyed their meal and it certainly helped us to get into the festive spirit. We would like to say a huge thank you to all the staff there who made us feel so welcome and we would highly recommend anyone to pay them a visit!

Kirkburn's Got Talent
November saw us host the very first Kirkburn’s Got Talent event. Our amazing staff and residents all joined together to take part and we were treated to an array of performances. We witnessed Peterhead’s very own answer to ABBA, Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers and many more! It was a brilliant event and the home was filled with so much excitement, fun and laughter. It was great to have staff, residents and their families involved – it was a real team effort.

Halloween
We had a spooktacular Halloween at Kirkburn Court this year. Our residents took part in various themed activities – from decorating neeps and crafting with local school children to competing in spider splat and witch ring toss. We donned our best witches hats and broomsticks and great fun was had by all.
