Activities at Laurel Bank Care Home
Activities are a fundamental part of a rich and varied lifestyle here at Laurel Bank Care Home, which is why we organise both physically and mentally stimulating social events for those we support. The weekly itinerary is ever-changing, and regularly includes art lessons, chair-based exercise, trips and visits from a variety of different animals, as well as one-to-one time for residents who prefer the peace and quiet. Our team actively tries to incorporate the hobbies and interests that are meaningful to residents into the activities schedule as encouragement to continue with much-loved pastimes.
Jaimy Lee Almond
Hi, my name is Jaimy Lee, and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Laurel Bank.
I have worked in the care home industry for over nine years. I started working at Laurel Bank in 2018 as a carer, and then, I was promoted to senior carer which I thoroughly enjoyed.
I moved over to activities in 2020, as I was asked to help out and help encourage residents to join in. During this, I realised how much fun it could be and chose to stay on and got promoted to Activities Coordinator.
I love my role as every day is different and I try to make sure the residents are happy and engage in meaningful activities, this also helps support the transition for new residents.

Life at Laurel Bank Care Home
Summer Fair
The circus came to town for our Summer Fair, with staff and residents dressing up for the day. The Mayor of Lancaster officially opened our event, and a magician made an appearance too! There were also clowns making balloon animals for the children, and a raffle, a tombola and a cake stall. Local legend Stevie Kay closed the day with a selection of big band hits, and nearly £400 was raised for the residents' fund.
Collage Competition
Residents Laurel Bank care have been getting crafty recently in aid of the collage competition for Lancaster Health Festival. As part of Lancaster Health Festival which takes place between 19th-22nd September and with a theme for this year as ‘The Lost Art of Living’.
There will be numerous speakers and events around the city, and local care homes have been invited to take part in a collage competition as a way to stimulate residents and allow their creative sides to come out. Our residents loved creating their submissions to the festival as arts and crafts is a popular activity within the home.
Iced Gems
Residents were treated to a magical performance from harp and vocalist duo, ‘Iced Gems’. The music was lovely and melodic and residents even got to have a go on the harp afterwards. ‘Incredible’ is how the birthday girl described the afternoon!
Coffee Morning
Representatives from local charities have been joining us at Laurel Bank to talk about their work during our new fortnightly coffee mornings. Residents really enjoy meeting different people and hearing about the great work they do in the community, and we hope to visit many of the charities soon on our minibus.
Craft Club
Residents at Laurel Bank got creative recently and made some thank you cards for children at a local school who sent us some pictures they had drawn recently. Everybody loved making the collages and we hope that this will lead to further arty collaborations between school and home.
Our Divisional Winner
Well done to Wayne Clifford-Lund, who was named as a Divisional Winner in the Carer of the Year category for the 2019 Barchester Care Awards.
