Activities at Laurel Bank Care Home
Activities are a fundamental part of a rich and varied lifestyle here at Laurel Bank Care Home, which is why we organise both physically and mentally stimulating social events for those we support. The weekly itinerary is ever-changing, and regularly includes art lessons, chair-based exercise, trips and visits from a variety of different animals, as well as one-to-one time for residents who prefer the peace and quiet. Our team actively tries to incorporate the hobbies and interests that are meaningful to residents into the activities schedule as encouragement to continue with much-loved pastimes.
Jaimy Lee Almond
Hi, my name is Jaimy Lee, and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Laurel Bank.
I have worked in the care home industry for over nine years. I started working at Laurel Bank in 2018 as a carer, and then, I was promoted to senior carer which I thoroughly enjoyed.
I moved over to activities in 2020, as I was asked to help out and help encourage residents to join in. During this, I realised how much fun it could be and chose to stay on and got promoted to Activities Coordinator.
I love my role as every day is different and I try to make sure the residents are happy and engage in meaningful activities, this also helps support the transition for new residents.

Life at Laurel Bank Care Home
The Purr-fect Visitor
One resident, Betty, was delighted to receive a visit from a very old cat – Rebecca is 15 years old; she loved being cuddled by Betty and Betty loved cuddling her. Animal visits of any kind are encouraged at Laurel Bank.
Friendship Month So Far...
We had a day of being creative, making cards and writing thank you notes for people in the home. Residents, staff and visitors all got involved.
Whilst we were being creative with Joanna from the Creation Station, we also made a friendship canvas, which is 9 small individual canvases, decorated by residents, joined together to make one big collaboration canvas.
We are just waiting for it to dry then we will hang it up for all to see.
PAT Dog
We recently had our first visit from Olivia the therapy dog. She stopped by the Pine & Willow units to say hello to all our dog-loving residents. They loved her so much that some didn't want her to leave. Olivia will be visiting Laurel Bank on a regular basis from now on.
Ukulele Basics
Ukulele Basics came in to do one of their wonderful sets for residents over the weekend. They all said how great it was to have something so different in the home and are looking forward to their return.
Bingo!
Residents love playing bingo here at Laurel Bank; concentration and enjoyment all round. Eyes down!
What's been going on at Laurel Bank?
We had the first outing on our new minibus to Morecambe for lunch - just look at everyone’s happy faces!
We've also been playing lots of dominoes in the home - we even play with visitors.
Scrabble is another firm favourite at Laurel Bank and we regularly have Scrabble days.
Art lessons are becoming very popular in the home; Carolyn visits once a month to teach something new. Everyone really engages and says how much fun it is at the end.
