Activities at Leonard Lodge Care Home

Our activities team offer a wide range of social events, from the very popular Friday morning bingo, to gentle exercise sessions, skittles, regular animal visits and arts & crafts sessions. We are fortunate to have a team of volunteers who stop by weekly to provide additional support, allowing residents the opportunity for one-to-one sessions. These sessions could include anything, even something as simple as playing a game of Scrabble or just having a cup of tea and a chat. We believe that it is essential to support people in such a way that they are able to continue to live full and happy lives doing the things that they enjoy.

Lynn Amiri

Activities Coordinator

My name is Lynn and I lead the Activities Team here at Leonard Lodge.

Since working at Leonard Lodge I have dedicated myself to ensuring that each of our residents can continue to partake in the hobbies that they have enjoyed for years. It is important that all of the residents here have access to life enriching, fun and social activities.

The whole home supports my team and I to organise activities, events and entertainment tailored to every residents preferences, abilities and needs. Each year we have a fantastically full calendar, and we look forward to the future when we can invite the families of residents to join us in the home again.

I am married with two children and two rather annoying rescue cats. I lived in Italy for a number of years and love all Italian food, especially when somebody else cooks it for me! I love to read, especially crime novels. I am a regular theatre goer with a passion for musicals. I like to sing and dance (albeit badly!).

Life at Leonard Lodge Care Home

Performing Pets Visit

We were thrilled to welcome Performing Pets into our home again for our monthly animal therapy session. This month we were visited by 4 adorable kittens, 3 boys called Bert, Ernie and Frank and a little girl that the residents named Daisy. 3 of the kitten were very docile, but Daisy was very playful and wanted to run around and explore. The kittens which were British short haired cats had the softest fur and several times they fell asleep on residents laps. The residents loved seeing the kittens and can’t wait for the next visit.

We visited Summerhill Garden Centre

The Christmas decorations are already out and we got into the Christmas spirit looking at all the displays and choosing designs we would like to try out as well as taking some great photos. We also visited the aquatics shop and saw some beautiful and exotic fish. We rounded off our visit with a lovely lunch in the restaurant.

Hutton 2 Little Birds Preschool Visit

We had a lovely visit from Hutton two little birds pre school The children aged between 2 and 5 sang songs including incey wincey spider which the residents all joined in with. The children brought harvest festival goody bags in for the residents which they had decorated themselves. The residents really enjoyed the visit and the children did as well.

Lake Meadows Visit

We took advantage of the lovely October weather and went for a final visit to Lake Meadows in Billericay.

We had a stroll round the lake, laughed at the moorhens playing tag, watched the geese and spent time watching the small children playing on the swings. Unfortunately the cafe was closed so we didn't get an ice cream but headed back home for a well deserved cup of tea.

Performing Pets Visit

Bonzo the Baby Barn Owl visited us today. Bonzo is 5 weeks old and he had the softest down, but is already starting to grow his feathers. Bonzo can't fly yet and is only just learning to perch. We loved stroking him and we were fascinated by his head swivelling and when he turned his head round to look behind him. We really enjoyed the visit from Bonzo.

MacMillan Coffee Morning

Residents enjoyed a morning of tea, cake and laughter. We had a lot of lovely cakes donated for our MacMillan Coffee Morning and enjoyed sampling the various offerings, including a salted caramel cake, lemon slices, a red velvet cake and a number of different chocolates as well as various muffins, cup cakes and traybakes. We were joined by residents friends and family. We are looking forward to seeing the final total raised for this very worthwhile cause when it is all collected and counted.
