Activities at Llys-Y-Tywysog Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Paula Courtney

Activities Coordinator

Hello I am Paula the Activities Coordinator, I have recently returned to Llys-Y-Tywysog.  I worked at the home for over 5 years when my children were younger.  My close connection with Llys remained as my father in law was former resident, so I was still visiting regularly.  I am delighted to be back working with the team.

I am creative and hope to bring new ideas for activities and events as well as still running firm favourites!  My passion is about enhancing the lives of the residents from individual time through to big celebratory events.  Sarah will continue to work as part of the activities team, working alongside me part time whilst studying for her degree at Swansea University.  As a team we are committed to Barchester's Life Enrichment programme ensuring we work with mind, body and soul.

Life at Llys-Y-Tywysog Care Home

Baking Class

Residents at Llys-Y-Tywysog enjoy a baking class every week. It’s a good way to interact with one another and it’s also a good way to use their cognitive skills by choosing the recipe, selecting the correct ingredients and tools to use.

Flower Power

Residents enjoyed creating a flower collage. They used different coloured felt for the flowers and cut out pretty card, then finished by adding some pretty jewels to the flowers. They were then displayed around the home for everyone to see.

Flower Arranging Session

The residents look forward to flower arranging every month where they can arrange a beautiful bunch of flowers to display in the home. This enables the residents to be creative and use their imagination, it also encourages use of the fingers and hands and is a great stress reliever, promoting a calm atmosphere.

Fruit Kebabs

Fruit kebabs are a fun, refreshing and healthy treat. We went with a combo of our favourite fruits: strawberries, grapes, banana, apple, kiwi fruit and clementine’s. The residents enjoyed picking what fruit they wanted to make their fruit kebab, and enjoyed dipping them into melted chocolate!

Christmas Party

We have thoroughly enjoyed our Christmas Party. Starting the day off with the wonderful Chris Caines and friend who entertained us with all our old time Christmas favourites, in between a load of jokes that had us all giggling.

We then celebrated with a Christmas buffet style party, pulling crackers with friends and loved ones in all our Christmas hat glory.

Mayor Visit

Llys-Y-Tywysog was visited by the Mayor Andrew Stevens, who brought along Toni Antoniazzi (Labour MP), Jan Curtice (Town Councillor) and Richard Davies (Local Area Coordinator). We all enjoyed a tea and tour of the home, and the visitors enjoyed meeting some of the residents.
