Activities at Lynde House Care Home
Our Activities Coordinators get a real buzz off their work here as enthusiasm is essential for the role. We decorate and celebrate for all the big annual events, Valentine's Day, Easter, Mothering Sunday and much more. There are also regular fixtures in our activities programme, including bingo, a sherry morning and quizzes, that are always well-attended. There's also an International Day that we hold to celebrate the wonderful ethnic diversity of our staff, where members of our team and their families give up their time to showcase their national costumes, dances and songs. Of course, we also have activities and services tailored to those residents who prefer the quiet life, such manicures or simply a friendly chat and a cup of tea. We always do our best to learn about residents' hobbies and interests and try to arrange our activities programme around their individual likes and dislikes.
Gitana Norvaisiene
Gitana Norvaisiene is our Life Enrichment Coordinator. She oversees and organises all social activities within the home. Although Gitana only recently took up the Coordinators role she was previously a carer at Lynde House. Within her first year she was honoured with being shortlisted at the National Barchester Awards in the category of Activities Coordinator of the year and also won with her team of residents and local school pupils the Barchester In Bloom best Flower display

Life at Lynde House Care Home
Hampton Court Palace
Our intrepid explorers became time travellers on Friday 4th August when they visited Hampton Court Palace. After a look around the palace and gardens, they were entertained by the resident Opera Group.
The Challenge
Lynde House residents enjoyed another visit from the Challenge Network on 4th & 5th August.
What is The Challenge, you ask?
In April 2009, five employees and a handful of volunteers founded The Challenge. They were concerned that, as Britain becomes more diverse by income, age and ethnicity, it becomes more important that different groups and individuals mix. Otherwise, our differences will come to divide us. That year, they set out to run a summer programme that would reach 158 young people in the heart of London and kick-start the life of an organisation which has continued to expand ever since. The programme launched that summer would become the National Citizen Service (NCS) and would, within a few short years, touch the lives of tens of thousands of people.
In 2013, we launched our Head Start programme; a chance for NCS graduates to continue their journey and give back to their local community through exciting volunteering opportunities. When a young person volunteers for 16 hours or more, they are guaranteed an interview for a part-time job with a leading employer. In 2013, the programme launched with just 30 young people. Since then, over 3,000 graduates have completed Head Start, resulting in over 50,000 hours of volunteering.
This is Lynde House's fifth year hosting an event with residents.
Celebrating Staff
At our summer party and staff awards ceremony on Saturday 29th July, we thanked Mike, a volunteer from Embracing Age, for his ongoing support. Mike was nominated as our 'Volunteer of the Year' at the 2017 Barchester Care Awards.
Lunch with the Bowls Club
Lynde House welcomed members of the Cambridge Park Bowls Club to lunch on Thursday 3rd August 2017. We hope that this is the start of a great relationship which will offer residents the opportunity to participate in various indoor and outdoor events that are held.
Back to Kew Gardens
Our intrepid Lynde House explorers are off again, this time to Kew Gardens for a second visit - too much to do and too little time to do it!
Welcome back, Jennifer!
We welcomed a new member of nursing staff to Lynde House recently. Jennifer, who is from China, worked at Lynde House almost 7 years ago. She then returned to China, but decided earlier this year to come back to Lynde House. I am sure we will all welcome Jennifer back to the home in our usual warm way!
