Activities at Marnel Lodge Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Sarah Yarney

Activities Coordinator

I have worked with the elderly for more than forty years in various roles, gaining varied knowledge and experience. I have been a relative at Marnel Lodge for ten years and worked as an admin assistant for a year and a half. I have now taken on the exciting role of Activities Coordinator at Marnel Lodge and I am looking forward to working with the residents, families and the Marnel team to start some new activities and adventures.

VE Day

Today at Marnel Lodge we remembered and celebrated Victory in Europe day. We had a military exhibition, including two lads Michael and Jan dressed in military uniforms including tin helmets.  A  tombola which was run by Daniela was good fun and lots of lovely prizes won. We had an indoor barbecue due to our great British weather but still enjoyed by all. Thank you Marnel Team for all your hard work, gathering donations and setting up a great V.E day.

A Visit from Wooster

At Marnel Lodge we have a very welcome and loved visitor who comes once a week. His name is Wooster, a beautiful black Labrador. He comes with his very kind owner Ann. They go around to all of our Residents to say hello and have a chat. As you can imagine Wooster gets a lot of fuss and loving from everyone including staff and families that visit. His owner brings treats with her that she allows the Residents to give under her supervision. Wooster has come to Marnel Lodge through the PAT dog charity. We are very grateful to have Wooster as our PAT dog, as a lot of Residents miss their beloved pets and Wooster never fails to bring a smile to everyone's faces.

A Coffee in the Sunshine

After a log time of rain, finally our lovely residents had a chance to catch some sun, and go for a quick coffee at local store. It was a fantastic afternoon.  Especially when you have a resident who love to tell jokes. We are waiting for more sunny days.

A trip to Olivers for Fish and Chips

There is nothing better than fish and chips at Oliver's and our ladies really enjoyed our bus trip to Old Basing. We had a lovely lunch and a lot of fun. Our first trip there but not the last one. Thank you Oliver’s Restaurant for fantastic atmosphere.

Our very own violin concert

Residents enjoyed our new entertainer Lizz who played various different genres on the violin. Lizz interacted with the residents which they absolutely loved. We can't wait to have her back at the home, performing again!
