Activities at Marple Dale Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.
Lewis Timperley
Hi, my name is Lewis. I joined the team in September 2021 as a general assistant and then moved to the activities team in January 2022. Most recently I became Activities Team Leader in December 2023, it has been a great journey here at Marple Dale and can’t wait to continue. I love my role as one of the homes Activity Coordinators, and love finding out new and exciting ways to engage residents with activities and each other.
Here at Marple Dale we try to do as many different activities as we can, to keep our residents as active as possible, as it is so important to keep active. I love what I do and love knowing that our residents have so much enjoyment from such a wide variety of activities.

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Marple Dale Care Home
Bonfire night
Staff and residents at Marple Dale celebrated Bonfire Night with a bang this November 5th when they wrapped up warm to gather around the bonfire to watch a fantastic firework display and enjoy lots of seasonal treats washed down with some mulled wine.
Bonfire Night commemorates the foiling of the Gunpowder Plot when 14 individuals tried to blow up the House of Lords during the state opening of Parliament on November 5th 1605. Staff and residents made a traditional Guy to burn on the bonfire while the fireworks lit up the night sky.
The residents enjoyed traditional bonfire night treats, including jacket potatoes, hot dogs, toffee apples, treacle toffee and parkin beautifully prepared by the homes hospitality team.
Cooking demo
We had a lovely time joining Chef Alex Connell from Vegetarian for Life for a Halloween-inspired virtual cooking demo.
Alex demonstrated how to prepare a few themed dishes, such as root vegetable tagine, roasted butternut squash mac-n-cheese, chocolate pots with piped biscuits and flapjacks.
Our residents were delighted to be a part of this lovely virtual culinary session by tasting the vegetarian dishes from the comfort of our home.
Musical entertainment
We had a lovely time singing songs with popular vocal entertainer, Anthony Lye, Sue one of our residents said it brought back memories of her being in school singing some of the songs. It was a lovely afternoon reminiscing, dancing and singing our hearts out. A big thankyou to Anthony lye and we look forward to a return visit.
Baking yummy cakes
We had a lovely time making Orange & Sultana Cake. Everyone helped each other mixing the ingredients together, once we were finished we sent it straight to the kitchen for our chef to put in the oven. Margret and Sarah had a brilliant time, they were up bright and early especially to come to our morning activity. The ladies were so happy being able to make something from scratch and was looking forward to eating some at our afternoon activity.
Creative writing
We had a great time joining journalist and novelist, Mike Gayle, for an intriguing virtual interview, during which he shared top tips for creative writing with our residents and read passages from his latest book, All the Lonely People.
We were thrilled to find out about Mike’s background, to understand what led him to become a writer and his creative process.
It was a lovely talk, enjoyed by all, especially by our keen writers at the home.
Residents take to the high seas
We had a lovely time joining Paul Hawkins and Lisa Richards from Unilever for an exciting Virtual Cruise experience.
Our residents were welcomed with mocktails as Lisa and Paul took them on a magical journey to 3 mystery destinations, which were uncovered after a few clues.
Paul demonstrated how to create a few of the local traditional dishes, which our residents had the opportunity to try too.
The event evoked lots of great memories and it was truly enjoyed by all.
