Activities at Marriott House and Lodge Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Marriott House & Lodge Celebrates Its Staff
On Thursday 19th May, Marriott House & Lodge celebrated its staff by presenting a number of awards.
Jeth Parker, Care Assistant in the Lodge, was awarded her 10 year service award. Jeth started at the home in May 2006 and has worked with residents and relatives to ensure that their needs have been met over the years.
Emilie Eastman, Care Assistant in the House was named Employee of the Month; she was awarded for the high quality care that she provides the residents with, and for her excellent relationships with relatives.
Our nurses were presented with their gifts for International Nurses' Week.
This was also the first time staff had been rewarded using the new Barchester Rewards Points scheme; staff were nominated for these awards by their heads of department and in conjunction with the General Manager.
These rewards are designed to recognise the contribution and achievement of individuals in a variety of ways.
Weekly Book Meetings
Our Activities Coordinator, Amy, has been holding weekly book discussion sessions. The group are currently reading through Pride and Prejudice, which is proving to be a huge success! They are spending time at the beginning of each session recapping where they have got up to, and they then discuss what they have read during the afternoon. All residents are welcome to attend.

Creative Talks: The Chelsea Flower Show & Fashion on the Kings Road
On Thursday 5th May, we enjoyed a visit from Creative Talks. This month's talk was about 'The Chelsea Flower Show & Fashion on the Kings Road'. The hour-long talk included a discussion about the history of the topics. We experienced this through music, pictures and films. The talk provoked lots of discussion and reminiscence. The June talk will be on Thursday 9th June at 11am and will be entitled 'Queen Elizabeth II - A Celebration'.
Break the Fun Barrier
On Friday 29th April, we were joined by Bernie from Break the Fun Barrier; the afternoon included singalongs and karaoke. Residents, visitors and staff all joined in with some singing and toe tapping!
Celebrating the Queen's Birthday at Marriott House & Lodge
On Thursday 21st April, staff, residents and visitors enjoyed an afternoon of celebration, followed by a street party to celebrate Her Majesty’s 90th birthday and St George's Day.
It was a significant day for everyone at the home, especially as many residents have lived throughout the Queen’s entire reign and remember her coronation vividly.
The entire home was decorated in Union Jacks and staff and residents were dressed in red, white and blue. The afternoon got off to a flying start with musical entertainment from The Simpsons Duo and a royal-themed quiz, which was followed by a street party-style supper.
General Manager, Theresa Shell, said, “we all had a great time celebrating the Queen’s birthday and we send her our warmest wishes as she enters her 90th year. The party at Marriott House and Lodge was a real community event with lots of friends and family joining us. Our fantastic hospitality team made sure all our guests got the royal treatment!”
