Activities at Meadowbeck Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Tina Holmes

Lead Activities Co-ordinator

Hi, I’m Tina, and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Meadowbeck.

I began working at the home as a Care Assistant in 1999. In 2014, I changed my role to Social Support Worker, which I enjoyed, as it involved supporting residents at Meadowbeck in their daily lifestyles.

I then became the Activities Coordinator in May 2017. I love working with our residents and getting to know them and their families. In addition to supporting them maintain an active lifestyle I always ensure to personally get to know each resident when they move in with us to support them in the continuation of any hobbies or interests the might have.

Life at Meadowbeck Care Home

70-years wedded bliss

This lovely couple recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary although they did not want any fuss, team members could not let this great achievement go unnoticed. They celebrated this special occasion with family with a day out to the railway Museum where they all enjoyed a lovely meal in a carriage. Edith says how she travelled a long way to meet her one and enjoyed a wonderful marriage together ever since, saying the secret to a long happy marriage is always give and take.

Armistice Day

Residents and team members showed their creative skills in a crafts afternoon making poppies and wreaths to decorate the home. Everyone enjoyed afternoon tea, singing along to all the war time favourite sing alongs, We joined together to watch the service for 2 minutes silence in remembrance of our heroes.

Cheese and wine soiree

Residents enjoyed our latest cheese and wine evening trying a selection of tasty cheeses and tipple of their choice.

This is always a great social evening with lots of smiles and laughter filling the room.

Winston Churchill's love affair with Blenheim Palace

Our residents were thrilled to join Antonia Keaney - Blenheim Palace’s Historian for an intriguing virtual talk on Winston Churchill.

The private resources of Blenheim Palace were drawn upon to afford very new and refreshing insights into this remarkable man. During the talk Antonia shared fascinating information about the breadth of talent, achievement and personality of the "Greatest Briton": soldier, politician, statesman, painter, writer, orator, family man - and bricklayer!

We all had a wonderful time and enjoyed learning more about UK’s former Prime Minister.

Festive wreath making

We were delighted to join Blooming Haus’s Christmas Wreath Making Masterclass, where Master Florist, Michal and his business partner - Michael showed us the best method to create beautiful festive wreaths.

Following the tips and ideas learnt during the amazing virtual experience, we were happy to put our skills to a test and to enter the #BarchesterChristmasWreaths competition.

We all had a wonderful time creating our festive wreath/s.

Thank you @bloominghaus for helping our residents flow into the true spirit of Noel.
