Activities at Meadowbeck Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Tina Holmes

Lead Activities Co-ordinator

Hi, I’m Tina, and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Meadowbeck.

I began working at the home as a Care Assistant in 1999. In 2014, I changed my role to Social Support Worker, which I enjoyed, as it involved supporting residents at Meadowbeck in their daily lifestyles.

I then became the Activities Coordinator in May 2017. I love working with our residents and getting to know them and their families. In addition to supporting them maintain an active lifestyle I always ensure to personally get to know each resident when they move in with us to support them in the continuation of any hobbies or interests the might have.

International Flower Day

We celebrated international flower day by arranging flowers in oasis foam, we also did a variety of quizzes and puzzles. A few of our residents also got into the spirit of colouring in some flowers. This was a lovely day enjoyed by all who took part.

Burns celebrations

Meadowbeck care home in Osbaldwick prepared a traditional Burns Night Dinner to the tune of bagpipes and the fun continued throughout the afternoon.

Staff and residents at the home were involved in a number of activities with a Scottish quiz , Robert Burns poetry read by one of our residents, music with everyone singing along to well-known Scottish songs to mark the Scottish institution, including giving the time-honoured address to the ‘Great chieftain O’ the pudding’ race’ – the haggis.

General Manager, Annaliza Kemp, at Meadowbeck, thought it was a perfect occasion to celebrate the day of reading a selection of Burns’ poems.

Pamper time

We had a wonderful 1-1 session with one of our residents and our lifestyle co-ordinator. We had a lovely chat and reminisced about our lives. The resident enjoyed the quality time over a cuppa.

Musical performance

Residents at Meadowbeck had a great afternoon for their Christmas party with live entertainment from Christie.  This was a wonderful afternoon with lots of singing and dancing to many Christmas hits, so much laughter filled the room as festive drinks flowed.  Finished off the afternoon by drawing the raffle which was lovely to see one of our ladies winning the large Christmas hamper.

Christmas Jumper Day

Residents and team members took part in Christmas jumper Day.  We all had a fun day in our festive jumpers and Christmas pj's, ended the day with a sweet treat with home made ginger bread men made by our talented Chef.

Christmas shopping

Ahead of the Christmas holidays, residents recently enjoyed a trip out for a little Christmas shopping.  Our residents were filled with joy during their visit and there were smiles and laughter all around. Taking in the festive atmosphere with decorations, beautiful festive lights, garlands and wreaths.  We enjoyed evening meal out, residents opted for Pizza at Macarthur Glen with refreshments, hot chocolate and marshmallows.
