Activities at Melbourn Springs Care Home
Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is a major focus of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat will always be welcomed.
Read our brochure 'Life-enriching activities' for more information about life in our care homes.

Life at Melbourn Springs Care Home
Dementia Action Week and Dementia Friends
Our Home Services Advisor Dan conducted a Dementia Friends session for our staff at Melbourn Springs to support National Dementia Action Week and the extensive Barchester Dementia training programme that all of our staff have already completed.
Laura, our Activities Co-ordinator also demonstrated our Magic Table - a specialist piece of technology in our Memory Lane Activity Cafe which has been designed to support those living with Dementia with specialist games, colouful light projections - enabling our residents to increase movement and positive mental stimulation.
Melbourn Springs is working alongside other local businesses and support groups to enable Melbourn and Royston to become even more dementia-friendly. Keep an eye out for the next Dementia Friends session and Magic Table community events at Melbourn Springs once government guidelines change.
Employee of April - Sophie
Staff and residents voted for our Care Assistant Sophie as the employee of April. Sophie is, "committed to helping everyone and always goes above and beyond to support every aspect of the home - an absolute star!"
Sophie was awarded with a £25 Gift Voucher and felt exceptionally honoured to be the first employee of the month in the history of Melbourn Springs. Well done Sophie from all of the team!
75th VE Day celebrations
Melbourn Springs residents and staff celebrated the 75th VE Day anniversary by gathering together at 11am for a two minute silence followed by a delicious themed lunch including Lord Woolton Pie, Sherry Trifle and a superb commemoration cake!
One of our residents even joined a virtual tour of the Churchill War Rooms in London and the day rounded up with a special toast at 3pm to honour those heroes who gave so much.
The end of World War Two is a reminder that we have got through difficult times before in this country and we will again - we will always remember them today and always.
National Star Wars Day
Melbourn Springs had a very special visitor on National Star Wars Day as Luke Skywalker dropped in to see our residents and team. Our chef Annie baked a delicious chocolate cake with strawberries for our residents to enjoy and thankfully Luke was on hand to slice it with his Lightsaber! There was lots of smiles and laughter as Luke departed saying, "May the 4th be with you!" and one resident asking him if Yoda will pop up next year?!?
Community Bear Hunt & Rock Hide and Seek
Melbourn Springs residents have been busy producing their very own colourful window display to join the community support for all the amazing care staff and NHS workers who are working so hard for the people in this country.
We have had lots of lovely comments from passers-by, including many from children who have been busy on their community Bear Hunt looking for our Melbourn Springs Bears. There is an official checklist and the idea is for children to be motivated to go outside and for the younger children to learn their numbers.
Melbourn Springs is also part of the community 'Rock Hide and Seek'. Our colourful home rock is somewhere in the village and due to covid-19 it has been advised not to touch the rocks - just take a picture next to it and share the photo to the Facebook group.
Lets see how far that Melbourn Springs Rock travels!
Home welcomes first resident
Melbourn Springs has welcomed its first resident - Iris and what a special day it was!
Iris was presented with a bouquet of flowers, a special welcome card signed by the whole team, chocolates and her very own favourite cake - a delicious Victoria Sponge!
Iris said, " I have had a super day and have been well and truly spoilt! The staff are so kind and everything is just perfect here at Melbourn Springs!"
