Activities at Newlands Care Home

Activities within our home are tailored around the requests of residents. Our Activities Coordinator holds regular activity meetings to seek new thoughts and ideas. The home is committed to offering a varied range of activities for all residents, from hand and nail care to gardening for those who have green fingers. We carry out reminiscence activities, including planned entertainment days, bringing the seaside into the home or dance hall meetings.

We hold strong links with the community, especially schools and local children's sports teams, who visit the home to provide entertainment and engagement with residents. We also maintain relationships with the church to ensure that residents’ spiritual beliefs are met. Externally, we have our own minibus, and outings are planned and carried out, again tailored to residents’ preferences, whether it be shopping, visits to the local pub, tea and coffee afternoons, or a scenic day out in the lakes and lovely countryside that surrounds us. However, the fun does not stop at the residents we care for, but we also hold events to involve family and the wider community.

A coffee with NESCAFE

We had a fabulous time joining NESCAFÉ’s virtual coffee experience.

We were able to look into how they sustainably farm their coffee beans, as well as, to have a virtual tour of one of their factories all from the comfort of our home.

To make things even more interesting, our residents had the chance to test their knowledge with an interactive quiz, and to the delight of all to taste the signature Sweet Cinnamon Shaken Iced Coffee cocktail.

Big bird watch

Here at Newlands, residents and staff are eagerly awaiting visitors on our new bird feeders. What will we see this year for the #BigGardenBirdWatch !

Home celebrate long service award

Paula has received a prestigious Long Service Award in celebration of working at Barchester Healthcare for 20 years.

Paula started at Barchester in 2001 and has worked with residents and their relatives to ensure that their needs have been met over the years in various roles including housekeeping, activities coordinator and now as one of our amazing care assistants.

We’re delighted to be celebrating 20 years of loyal service with Paula. She has demonstrated her dedication and loyalty to this home and its residents year after year.

Chinese New Year

Here at Newlands we welcomed in the Year of the Tiger with a day of celebrations and activities.

Inspired by Chinese culture and traditions, our residents enjoyed a creative session with Chinese New Year DIY lanterns, Chinese inspired food and discussion about the animals associated with the Chinese zodiac including what animal they are.

Underwater delights

A huge thank you to Deb at Debs'SheShedCreations for crocheting and donating a fantastic underwater scene for our residents.

Staff and residents loved looking at all the creatures that have been made on its tour around the care home and can now be admired from reception!

Heavenly cookery demo

We had a lovely time joining Chef Alex Connell from Vegetarian for Life for a Valentine’s-inspired virtual cookery demonstration.  Chef Alex created some delicious Valentine’s Day-inspired vegetarian desserts, which our residents had the opportunity to try too.

First, our residents sampled a wonderful sticky toffee pudding, which was absolutely heavenly. Then they tried hazelnut truffles which were a huge hit and finally they were treated to a chocolate orange cake which everyone adored.
