Meet the Plas-Y-Dderwen Care Home Team

Our wonderful team comprises nurses, carers, activities coordinators, chefs, housekeepers and more. These people are here to ensure that residents enjoy their time at the home and are supported to live life to the fullest. Meet some of our staff below:

Sharon Herbert

Senior General Manager

Welcome to our website. My name is Sharon Herbert, and I am the Senior General manager for Barchester based at Plas y Dderwen.

I qualified as a Registered Nurse in 1994 and joined Barchester in 2015, firstly working at Plas Y Dderwen before supporting other regions for 4 years, helping to improve quality and resident experience.  

I returned to Plas Y Dderwen in July 2022, whereby as a team we are passionate about the residents that we support and the experience they have whilst in our care.  I am committed to a high standard of service delivery, ensuring that the staff also meet the requirements in terms of training and adhering to the Barchester Values of respect, integrity, passion, empowerment and responsibility.

Michael O'Reilly

Responsible Individual (RI)

Michael O Reilly joined Barchester Healthcare in April 2017 and is the Responsible Individual (RI) for all of our Welsh services. As RI, Michael visits all Welsh services at least every three months and works closely with the home management team and regulators to ensure that the highest quality of care is offered. Michael is very proud to be part of the team.

Michael holds the position as General Counsel and Director of Quality, Risk and Compliance as well as the Company Secretary for Barchester.

Kelly-Ann Holmes

Clinical Deputy Manager

Hello, I'm Kelly-Ann and I am the Clinical Deputy Manager. I have a degree in adult general nursing and have been a qualified nurse since 2012. My nursing background is in a nursing home setting. I have experience in elderly care and young adults with acquired brain injuries, learning difficulties and complex needs. I am passionate about person-centred care.

It is important to me that I get to know the residents, families and the staffing team in order to build up professional relationships. It is important to me that I seek to ensure all residents are able to live their lives to the fullest, whilst also making sure their daily living care needs are supported and maintained.

Lewis Slaven

Senior Carer

Hi, I am Lewis and I have worked here for 9 years. 

I like to feel that I use my experiences throughout my time here to have a greater understanding of the residents, their loved ones and the carers I work with. 

I love my role and the best part of my job is getting to know and spending time with the residents in all communities.

Andrew Whitmarsh

Head of Towy Community

Hi, my name is Andy and I’ve been a nurse for 12 years, 11 of those years I’ve been here at Plas Y Dderwen. During my time here I have worked on the different communities  of the home and I feel that gives me a varied approach to our residents and their needs. 

My current role is Head of unit on the Towy community,  here we have 32 available beds providing nursing and residential care.  I enjoy the day to day working environment as no two days are the same.

Christine Harris

RGN Nurse

I moved to Wales in September 2022 and joined Plas y Dderwen in October 2022. Working with different units was something I wasn’t familiar with but the staff were supportive. I have been nursing for about 46 years and the last 20 years have been working with residents living with Dementia. I work within the advanced Dementia community and I really enjoy working here in Plas y Dderwen, the staff are friendly and are always happy to help.

Tayo Mogaji

Nurse

Hi my name is Tayo and I have been a Registered General Nurse for 6 years. I qualified as a Registered Nurse in Nigeria. I found employment with Plas y Dderwen as a pre-registered nurse and I qualified as a Registered Adult Nurse in the UK in 2023. I have worked at Plas y Dderwen for a year now, providing empathetic, therapeutic care to the residential and nursing residents whilst developing a good interpersonal relationship with residents and staff. Working on the different communities within Plas y Dderwen has broadened my knowledge and experience in care for the residents individually, whilst attending to their nursing needs. The company itself is keen on knowledge development and I benefit from the webinars and clinical training which will continue to improve the quality of care I provide.

Sally Wootton

RMN Nurse

I am a nurse who came to work at Plas Y Dderwen eleven years ago. I had previously worked for the NHS for 30+ years as a psychiatric nurse. I work nights on Teifi unit and love my job. I have met the most amazing people during my time here and consider it a privilege to care for people living their journey through dementia and its challenges. The staff I work with are well trained and experienced in delivering a high standard of individualised care. The home is a friendly comfortable environment with plenty of trips and activities going on. The management are very supportive of all the staff and their various needs. Training is ongoing constantly. I particularly enjoy the autonomy and responsibility of managing the unit on nights.

Michael Walton

Dementia Champion

Hello, my name is Michael, and I am one of the Dementia Champions here at Plas Y Dderwen. I have been a part of the team for three years, and I am truly passionate about my role. 

I primarily work within the Memory Lane community, where I enjoy the variety each day brings. Spending quality time with individual residents is incredibly rewarding. 

I am always seeking ways to enhance the community for our residents and love working with such a dedicated team.

Jacqui Price

Administrator

Hi I am Jacqui Price and I have been working for Plas y Dderwen since 2022. I have nearly forty years’ experience in administration and accounts, primarily in the motor industry in and around Hereford and Cheltenham.

I moved to Wales in 2022, and started working for Plas y Dderwen not long after the move. This is the first time I have ever worked in the care industry. The passion I have for ensuring our home runs smoothly, and our residents are cared for with dignity and respect is very rewarding, and I absolutely love my job.

Lisa Peart

Activities Coordinator

Hello, I'm Lisa, and I joined the team here at Plas Y Dderwen, in November 2022. With over a decade of experience in the care sector since 2009, I'm deeply passionate about working with people and making a positive impact on their lives. 

I've always had a love for creativity and find joy in bringing smiles to others. My focus is on designing person-centered activities that are not only meaningful but also enrich the lives of our residents, creating moments of fun and fulfillment.

Simon Thomas

Head Chef

I am Simon the Head Chef here at Plas y Dderwen, where I have been developing my cooking skills with support for many years.

We as a kitchen team aim to deliver nutritionally high, well presented tasty meals on a daily basis to all of our residents while trying to suit individual needs and wants.

Kane Rhodes-Prout

Hello, my name is Kane, I have had the pleasure of working here for over 5 years. I enjoy bringing expertise and dedication to the role of Head of Maintenance. 

I’m passionate about providing high-quality service to our residents, ensuring that their environment is safe and well-maintained. I truly enjoy coming to work every day and take pride in delivering the best possible care to all of our residents.

Kathryn Thomas

Receptionist

Hi. My name is Kathryn and I’ve worked at Plas y Dderwen for just over a year. This is the 3rd Nursing home I’ve had the pleasure of working in. As receptionist, my primary role is to be the first point of contact either by phone or for visitors at the front door. I love to meet and greet and I am always proud to show off our lovely home. I’m also here to provide admin backup to the Home Administrator. Life is busy, varied and no two days are the same.

Gill Allcorn

Resident Ambassador

Hello my name is Gill and I am one of the Resident Ambassadors her at Plas Y Dderwen. I have lived here for 2 years now and I love living here, with the feeling of being safe and secure. 

I am 85 years of age and I love horses and all animals. I like to help people and welcoming new residents. I have made so many friends here and I love calling this place my home.

Geraint Griffiths

My name is Geraint and I have lived at Plas Y Dderwen since 2017.  My role is to be the person that represents the other residents and to greet people when they come into the home.  

Life here is amazing with the staff being so caring and helpful, we have a variety of activities on offer with my favourite being Bingo. Please take the time to  Come and have a look for yourselves.

Linda Adams

My name is Linda, and I have been a senior Carer at Plas Y Dderwen since November 2022. With over 35 years of experience in the care industry, I am truly passionate about making a positive impact on someone's day. 

I take great pride in the responsibility of training new staff members and guiding them as a mentor throughout their journey. It is rewarding to support others in their development while continuing to provide excellent care.

Hello, my name is Amit, and I am a Senior Carer here at Plas Y Dderwen. I joined the team at the start of 2024, and I have truly enjoyed working in this wonderful setting. During my time here, I've gained a wealth of knowledge and confidence in my role. 

I feel supported by all of my colleagues, which enables me to deliver the best possible care to our residents. Plas y Dderwen feels like one big family, and I am proud to be a part of it, helping to provide exceptional service for our residents.

I have worked at Plas y Dderwen for 12 years, as a Care Assistant. I enjoy working here and the best part of each shift, is the time I get to spend with the residents. I enjoy getting to know them, listening to their stories and being able to help them in any way I can.  I am passionate about delivering person-centred care and assist in ensuring our residents have a good quality of life.

Sophie Rees

Volunteer

Hello, my name is Sophie and I have been a Volunteer here for almost 10 years. I visit 3 days a week, spending time chatting with the residents, getting to know them, playing board games, and engaging in various activities. 

I find great joy in making people smile and creating meaningful connections with residents.
