Activities at Red Oaks Care Home
We believe in making a difference to the lives of people living here with us and ensure that we provide a lifestyle full of choice and stimulation that is centred around each resident here at Red Oaks. This includes a whole host of varied activities, together with regular trips out around the region, taking full advantage of the home’s minibus. Our aim is to enable each person we support to continue to do the things they enjoy for as long as they possibly can.
Sue McHoy
My role as activity coordinator at Red Oaks is ensuring that all residents have a full and varied activity program. Using our getting to know me books and knowing our residents backgrounds develop our activity program. Having lived in Henfield for the past 10 years I enjoy assisting residents maintaining and forming new the community connections.
I am passionate about my role, the part is having fun and making people smile.

Life at Red Oaks Care Home
International Nurses' Day
Coinciding with the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, International Nurses Day, held on Wednesday 12th May, is a day to celebrate nurses and care staff around the world. Residents and staff at Red Oaks were happy to get involved by hosting a much deserved celebration.
Out & About... Finally
Staff and residents were celebrating being able to go on short excursions again as lockdown restrictions ease across the country. Residents are now able to go on a short trip to outdoor spaces without having to isolate on their return.
Residents from Red Oaks enjoyed a long-awaited trip to South Water Park, where they were able to enjoy a walk around the lake and take in the lovely views.
It is absolutely wonderful to be able to take our residents out for trips again. We have all been waiting for this day and we are so thankful it is finally here. Our residents have enjoyed all sorts of different entertainment during lockdown, but nothing beats some fresh air and a change of scenery to blow away the cobwebs.
Challenge 100
Residents at Red Oaks have taken part in the Captain Tom 100 Challenge to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Carrying on the legacy of Capt. Sir Tom Moore walking his famous 100 laps of the driveway that became so famous, the family have asked people to create their own '100 Challenge' for charity.
The residents at Red Oaks decided to complete 100 different exercise moves to do their part for the 100 challenge. Residents and staff were all very supportive and were there to cheer on the participants as they began the fundraising challenge.
A Royal Celebration
Residents and staff enjoy celebrating birthdays at Red Oaks, and the Queen's is no exception. Celebrating with a high tea of wonderful sweet treats, residents celebrated not only the Queen’s birthday but 3 resident birthdays as well.
All had much fun being photographed with the Queen.
Paying Our Respects
Staff and residents paid their respects to the Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh on the day of his funeral, 17th April 2021. The whole home came together to honour Prince Philip’s long and extraordinary life of service to the Queen, the British people and the Commonwealth over his 73 year marriage to the Queen, making him the longest-serving Consort to any British monarch.
Residents and staff watched the televised service that took place at St George’s Chapel in the grounds of Windsor Castle and observed the minute’s silence in memory of the Duke. After the ceremony, staff and residents celebrated Prince Phillips life with a high tea and discussed their memories of Prince Philip and the Queen and what the royal family has meant to them over the years. They reminisced about royal tours and the Duke’s contribution to many different aspects of British life.
Celebrating Easter in Style
Staff and residents at Red Oaks celebrated Easter with a whole host of activities, including making our own Easter eggs, which was a bit messy, but great fun.
We decorated a basket and filled it with a variety of chocolate eggs and chicks covered in yellow feathers. Leigh Clifford, the Head Chef, made some delicious hot cross buns, which were thoroughly enjoyed on Good Friday. Children from Ashurst Church of England School came with handmade cards for all the residents with Easter blessings.
Residents at Red Oaks all said that they had thoroughly enjoyed the Easter celebrations. Glenda Williams, the Red Oaks Pastry Chef, made one of her award winning cakes to celebrate Easter, depicting a highly decorated rabbit. The residents voted to donate the cake to any organisation that received the most votes on the Red Oaks Facebook page, and he winner was Henfield Medical Centre. The cake was received by Dr Cheryl Lambe, one of the partners at the practice.
