Activities at Rivermead Care Home
We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered programme of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends. The home also has its very own minibus for our numerous outings for coffee and shopping, which residents love.
Nicola Bedford
Hi, My name is Nicola and I am the activity coordinator for Rivermead. I plan and deliver a range of interactive and stimulating activities throughout the week for all the residents.
We focus our planning through person centred care, meaning the activities we deliver are tailored to each of the residents individual choice and interests.
It’s a very rewarding job role to be in, seeing the residents enjoy their lives to the best of their abilities and enhancing their experiences, building and maintaining friendships and supporting their wellbeing.

Life at Rivermead Care Home
Sunshine Lounge
As the heavy rain came down on our home. The residents of Rivermead were not going to have their spirits dampened as we came together in our 'Sunshine Lounge' for a Hawaiian themed morning of delicious cocktails and mocktails. Featuring some delicious recipes courtesy of our friends at Oomph Wellness .
Our residents, family members and colleagues enjoyed a morning filled with song and dance.
The fun continued after lunch as our residents enjoyed a special live virtual event 'Come Sing to Feel Good' featuring Dan Cooper. Vocal coach to the stars, including Take That and Little Mix as he led our residents in an uplifting sing along of ABBA's smash hit 'Mama Mia'
Music through the ages
Our homes had a brilliant time with curator Sarah Deters as she took us on a virtual ‘Music Through the Ages’ tour of St Cecilia’s Hall: Concert Room and Music Museum.
Our residents were thrilled to discover weird and wonderful musical instruments, hear their unusual sounds, and find out how instruments have changed over the last 500 years.
The virtual live event explored the world-renown collection of musical instruments on display at St Cecilia’s Hall, Scotland’s oldest concert hall.
BHC Care Awards 2022 - Divisional Winner
We are proud to announce that Layla Rainbow has been crowned Learner of the Year for the North Division in this year’s Barchester Care Awards and is through to the national round of judging.
More than 2,950 nominations were received from all Barchester homes and hospitals across the UK. All entries were a very high standard and Layla is over the moon to have been named the winner for the division, beating hundreds of other nominees.
Our divisional winner Layla is through to the national finals in which the overall winner is decided. She will join winners from across the UK at a special awards event in October to celebrate their outstanding achievements and discover if they have won a national award.
Huge congratulations, well deserved!
Opera delight
Our homes had a fabulous time with the talented soprano Astrid Joos from Street Theatre. Astrid spoke about a selection of famous operas and our residents were treated to performances of wonderful arias from operas well-known to all, such as ‘Giuditta’, ‘Don Giovanni’ and ‘Le Nozze di Figaro’.
It was a lovely experience, truly enjoyed by all.
A trip to Scampston Hall
This morning residents Pam, Rosie and Vivien joined Activity Co-Ordinator’s Beth and Danny and Care Practitioner Karlen for a morning trip for a stroll around Scampston Garden and a stop off for teas, coffees and a scone.
The ladies had a delightful morning enjoying themselves looking at the beautiful flowers on show, the majestic gardens, and beautiful surroundings, with Vivien even purchasing a ‘bee friendly’ plant for a friend.
We all shared memories of coming to Scampston in the past, with Rosie telling us about a friend that lives nearby. The topic of conversation took a turn to discussing the cinema, with Pam telling us that her favourite actor was Roy Rodger’s, stating he ‘was a singing cowboy!’ And Vivien recalling a memory of going to the pictures and the staff restarting the whole film as she was late to the screening.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable morning, with a lot of laughs and giggles being shared by all.
Cinema club opens to 'West Side Story'
This afternoon, residents in our Memory Lane Community were treated to a cinema style afternoon showing of the latest version of ‘A West Side Story’
The residents all made their way over to the viewing screen in anticipation of watching the film. They enjoyed the all singing, all dancing film with Norman even regularly clapping along in between his fix of popcorn, chocolate and fizzy Coca Cola.
It was a joyous afternoon spent by those who came, with Brenda and Pamela both saying ‘I’m glad I came to watch as I remember watching the first one but this is just as good!’
