Activities at Rivermead Care Home
We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered programme of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends. The home also has its very own minibus for our numerous outings for coffee and shopping, which residents love.
Nicola Bedford
Hi, My name is Nicola and I am the activity coordinator for Rivermead. I plan and deliver a range of interactive and stimulating activities throughout the week for all the residents.
We focus our planning through person centred care, meaning the activities we deliver are tailored to each of the residents individual choice and interests.
It’s a very rewarding job role to be in, seeing the residents enjoy their lives to the best of their abilities and enhancing their experiences, building and maintaining friendships and supporting their wellbeing.

Life at Rivermead Care Home
Home celebrate Jackson Pollock's birthday
Staff and residents at Rivermead care home had a creative, if a little messy, time celebrating the birthday of the celebrated abstract expressionist painter, Jackson Pollock, on 28 January. He was born in 1912 and is most famous for his distinctive style of dripping, pouring and spraying paint to create his distinctive paintings.
The staff and residents spent the day learning about Jackson Pollock’s style of painting, looking at pictures of his art and discussing what the images meant to them. Then the real fun began as the residents and staff tried to recreate some of the art works whilst adding their own creative flair into the mix.
General Manager, Sarah Jackson, said: “We have had a fascinating day finding out all about Jackson Pollock and his very particular style of painting. Many of our residents love to paint but not quite like this! We had some great debates about what everyone thought about this type of art and it is clearly not to everyone’s taste but we all had good fun trying out his techniques – it was very liberating!”
Residents head down under to Oz!
We had a day of celebrating all things down under this week at Rivermead to celebrate Aussie day. The residents played games such as Aussie Lingo, and had a quiz of pin the city on Oz.
The residents made their own boomerangs and had a good ole fashioned game of Balloons, with some impressive headers from our gentleman!
Activities are imperative at Rivermead and we aim to provide a stimulating, enjoyable environment for each and every resident bringing them joy and fulfilment throughout their journey at Rivermead.
International Flower Day
Residents at Rivermead celebrated International Flower Day which took place on 21st January.
International Flower Day promotes the psychological boost that flowers can give to people. From growing and nurturing plants and flowers, to gifting flowers to show love and appreciation, and sometimes just the simple act of admiring their beauty – flowers have the power to make someone’s day.
Residents took part in flower-based activities throughout the day including a flower arranging competition, planting spring bulbs, and interactive fun using the homes magic table.
Home amongst first to receive vaccinations
Staff and residents at Barchester’s Rivermead care home, in Malton were delighted to be invited to have the vaccination at Derwent GP Practise which has lifted everyone’s spirits after what has been a very challenging year for everyone.
General Manager, Sarah Jackson said: “Last year was a year like no other and the vaccine feels like the light at the end of the tunnel. Our teams have been magnificent in how they have risen to every challenge during this pandemic and we are proud to play our part in this next phase to ensure the most vulnerable are protected.”
