Activities at Rivermead Care Home
We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered programme of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends. The home also has its very own minibus for our numerous outings for coffee and shopping, which residents love.
Nicola Bedford
Hi, My name is Nicola and I am the activity coordinator for Rivermead. I plan and deliver a range of interactive and stimulating activities throughout the week for all the residents.
We focus our planning through person centred care, meaning the activities we deliver are tailored to each of the residents individual choice and interests.
It’s a very rewarding job role to be in, seeing the residents enjoy their lives to the best of their abilities and enhancing their experiences, building and maintaining friendships and supporting their wellbeing.

Life at Rivermead Care Home
Barchester's Big Quiz
All over the country our care homes and hospitals linked up for Barchester’s Big Quiz of the year!
Residents tested their knowledge with a variety of questions, from historical humdingers and musical musings to pictorial puzzlers and connective conundrums.
Everyone who participated had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.
Alpaca adventure!
Rivermead care home, in Norton, was full of animal mischief this week when a group of alpacas came to visit the home. Residents at Rivermead care home were pleasantly surprised to see their new furry friends roaming around their garden as Butterwick Alpaca Retreat paid a visit.
General Manager Sarah Jackson said: “Our residents have really enjoyed their unusual visitors today. We knew that having the farm here would be a bit of fun for all our residents, especially as some find it difficult to go on many outings in our minibus. We are always looking for new activities for the residents and today we have seen the seen the enjoyment and the therapeutic influence animals can have on people.”
Meeting the Reindeers
Across our homes we got into the Christmas spirit of things by joining a festive live virtual experience, led by Des and Kelly from Performing Pets.
Our residents were thrilled to meet the charming furry friends and get up close and personal with the reindeers. We certainly learnt some interesting facts about the animals and had a fantastic time.
Christmas Fayre
The annual Christmas fayre has returned to Rivermead. We had several stands and had a wonderful turnout to enjoy all our festivities. Mince pies, mulled wine and homemade cakes went down an absolute treat and we were also joined by Martin and his amazing music.
We would like to thank everybody for their help leading up to today and all the staffs hard work in ensuring this afternoon ran smoothly.
We look forward to the build up to Christmas with our residents and families and celebrating all the festivities with everybody.
Carols at York Minister
Barchester’s Rivermead care home, in Norton got in the Christmas spirit by visiting York Minster for their annual carol concert. Residents and staff had a brilliant time, Residents - John, Norman, Brenda and Beryl were escorted by members of our care team including General Manager, Sarah Jackson, and also accompanying them on this festive treat was Beryl’s daughter.
The Chapter House Choir first performed Carols by Candlelight in York Minster in 1965, when the choir was formed to raise funds for the York Minster Appeal and this ever popular event held in the nave of the minister was a fulfilling, fun and festive experience for everyone. We sang carols, listened to the wonderful choir and took in all of our surroundings in such a beautiful place.
Christmas Jumper Day
