Activities at South Chowdene Care Home
Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!
Niki Powell
I arrange meaningful activities for all of our residents based on their likes and interests. I love sharing fun times with our residents, their families and with staff. I thoroughly enjoy chatting with residents about their hobbies/interests as well as reminiscing in small groups.
Our activities extend beyond the home with trips to places of interest, places residents have enjoyed throughout their lives eg. Seaside, parks, garden centers, as well as craft/ art workshops at libraries and general interest talks around the area.
Read our brochure 'Life-enriching activities' for more information about life in our care homes.

Life at South Chowdene Care Home
Delicious treats
We had a lovely time joining Chef Alex Connell from Vegetarian for Life for a Valentine’s-inspired virtual cookery demonstration. Chef Alex created some delicious Valentine’s Day-inspired vegetarian desserts, which our residents had the opportunity to try too.
First, our residents sampled a wonderful sticky toffee pudding, which was absolutely heavenly. Then they tried hazelnut truffles which were a huge hit and finally they were treated to a chocolate orange cake which everyone adored.
International Flower Day
Residents got the planting season started to mark International flower day with Sweet peas going in. Some residents received beautiful flowers and the rest of us talked about them in a quiz and we marvelled at the huge selection of Orchids available completing the Orchid wordsearch. We are looking forward to a colourful and sweet smelling year.
Film and popcorn day
Our resident ambassador has wanted to see the film ‘Waterloo Bridge’ for quite some time. Unfortunately, we were having trouble sourcing it. Santa was good and brought Evelyn this film and Popcorn day seemed a good day to put it on in the lounge and enjoy a trip to the cinema.
The 'King' entertains!
As a firm favourite at South Chowdene we couldn’t miss this and although we couldn’t have someone in to sing to us, we learned a fair few fun facts about the ‘King’ himself and pit our wits in a quiz about his songs and films. The tuneful bit came with the ‘Musical Bingo’ during which we all had a ‘Bingo card’ with Elvis songs on instead of numbers and the songs were crossed out as they were played and recognised. Residents had a great time humming along and chatting about their memories related to songs and films.
We also had time for a couple of Elvis films.
Go carolling!
Go Carolling day was Monday but South Chowdene residents have continued at full volume all week. On Go Carolling day, we invited community, friends and family to join us for an outdoor rendition of our favourite carols followed by delicious hot chocolate courtesy of Michelle along with mince pies. Yesterday, we had a candlelit request event with Niki on violin which was lovely and calming.
Christingle
South Chowdene residents got themselves fully immersed in Christmas with a spot of Christingle making for table centres for the big day, after which they got into the party mood with a few drinks, music and Traditional games. A great time was had by all.
