Activities at Southerndown Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Stacey Davies

Activities Co-ordinator

I have worked at Southerndown since 2013. I enjoy providing various activities for our residents with the team, such as gardening groups, trips out in the mini bus around the Cotswolds, quiz days and entertainment performances. Amongst the many things we enjoy doing, part of my role within the home is to ensure all residents are provided the purpose in life to fulfil day to day stimulation, whether that be together, or creating individual activity to those that prefer.

International Flower Day

Today was international flower day to mark the occasion we had a flower arranging workshop. One resident Margaret who joined the workshop today is a proud member of the WI, she gave us her help and expertise. We were all pleased with the final results.

Project 'Dolls House'

Today we started a very special activity ‘project dolls house’. Southerndown’s activity team recently bought a second hand dolls house for our Blenheim Gardens community.

We have had a wonderful morning making an inspiration board with our favourite ideas, designs, themes and colours. We were able to start our board with a very kind donation of ideal home magazines from local Jacqueline.

Thank you Jacqueline, they are very much appreciated. We are really pleased with our progress so far. We have had lots of discussions and we think we know what designs we would like to start with our dolls house.

Kiddleydivey

There's never a dull moment at Southerndown, and especially not today as we had a very special visit from Kiddledivey. Kiddledivery provide fun-filled lively and imaginative classes and sessions, and we had such an amazing afternoon with Yvette singing and dancing to our favourite songs.

Burns celebrations

Southerndown have been celebrating Burns Night in style with a hearty meal of Cullen Skink soup, Haggis with neeps and tatties and finished off with a fantastic Cranachan dessert.

And if that’s wasn’t enough we had a surprise visit from Richard and James playing the Bagpipes, which was amazing and we would like to say a massive thank you for taking time out of your day to come and play for us.

Dick Wittington in Panto

On Monday, the 13th Day of our Countdown to Christmas calendar the activities team gave to us 'Dick Wittington in Panto' courtesy of the amazing Partytime Productions players.

Our residents had a super time watching and taking part in the production, with lots of 'he's behind you' and 'oh no he isn't'. Resident Joan said she hasn't laughed so much in ages and Margaret remarked the show reminded her of going to see the panto in Oxford when she was younger and Ester couldn't wait to tell her daughter all about it as she'd had such a good time!

The residents and staff at Southerndown send a big THANK YOU to Partytime and wish everyone a very merry Christmas.
