Activities at Southerndown Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Activities Co-ordinator

I have worked at Southerndown since 2013. I enjoy providing various activities for our residents with the team, such as gardening groups, trips out in the mini bus around the Cotswolds, quiz days and entertainment performances. Amongst the many things we enjoy doing, part of my role within the home is to ensure all residents are provided the purpose in life to fulfil day to day stimulation, whether that be together, or creating individual activity to those that prefer.

Christmas at Blenheim Palace

What a marvellous ‘magical’ day we all had at Blenheim Palace.

We arrived in a convoy of minibuses, staff and residents from Southerndown along with 6 further Oxfordshire based Barchester homes all to be treated to a fabulous Christmas event courtesy of Blenheim Palace

The organisers at Blenheim Palace were amazing hosts. Firstly we discovered the story of The Nutcracker re-imagined within the Palace rooms, each one exquisitely transformed and filled with hidden surprises – from the toymaker’s workshop on a frosty Christmas Eve; through the glistening Land of Snow and onto the candy-cane Kingdom of Sweets adorned with the sweetest of treats and larger-than-life gingerbread men. It’s a world where nothing is quite as it seems, from a dashing Nutcracker Prince and an army of mice to a Sugar Plum Fairy and a music box with a difference.

General Manager, Rosalynn Forson, said: “Today’s Christmas tour has been an absolute feast for the senses. Our residents loved being able to experience all that Blenheim Palace has to offer at Christmas, from the beautiful Palace rooms right down to the outdoor Christmas market, we got to take in all the sights. It really has been a wonderful treat for us all.”

The day culminated with a tea party in the prestigious Marlborough Room, with a slice of Christmas chocolate caterpillar cake for us all!

We'd like to thank Blenheim Palace for their hospitality and making our day so very special.

Employee of the Month - November 2021

The residents and staff at Southerndown care home took time to congratulate Senior Carer; Julie Miles for being nominated as ‘Employee of the Month’ for November 2021.

Julie has been outstanding in her support of all departments across the Southerndown community even extending her time to offer additional support to one of our sister homes. She truly is amazing! Loved by her colleagues and our residents.

Our Home Manager, Rosalynn congratulated Julie on her achievement, presenting her with a £25 voucher as a special THANK YOU. “Julie is a very special young lady, she’s gone above and beyond throughout November with a smile on her face that lights up the home. We all hope this award goes some way towards showing Julie how valued she is by us all."

Congratulations Julie, enjoy the accolade and recognition.

Floral Table Decorations

For this week’s flower arranging session, our group decided to create some beautiful floral table centres to brighten the homes dining rooms.
