Activities at Springvale Court Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Jess Bruford

Activities Coordinator

Hi, My name is Jess and I am Activities Coordinator here at Springvale Court. I am delighted to join the team, joining in December 2023 but I have found my feet with ease. I spend time getting to know all of our residents and this helps me to arrange meaningful activities based on individual likes and interests. I love spending time with our residents, be it chatting one to one, small reminiscing groups or large group activities.

I am looking forward to learning and growing with Barchester and I am always open to any ideas for new and different activities so please stop and chat with me.

Life at Springvale Court Care Home

Residents enjoy cookery demo

To celebrate National Vegetarian Week, staff and residents at Barchester’s Springvale Court were treated to an interactive virtual cookery demo courtesy of chef, Alex Connell, from Vegetarian for Life.

Chef Alex whipped up some tasty, healthy vegetarian snacks in a live, interactive cookery demo.  Much to residents’ delight, Springvale head chef had prepared the same recipes so that residents could try all the dishes. Residents sampled delicious, light and summery veggie dishes including Borlotti bean and dill pate, Greek fritters with Tzatziki and Coronation 'chicken' pastries. All finished off with a sweet and simple but totally yummy banana bread.

Mental Health Awareness Week

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Springvale Court were treated to an armchair work out courtesy of the Green Goddess, Diana Moran, and Shackleton’s furniture company, followed by a mindfulness session led by Shackleton’s Emma Raybould.

Diana rose to fame as a glamorous fitness guru on BBC’s Breakfast Time in the 1980’s and has made an outstanding contribution to improving the health and wellbeing of people in the UK. She now brings that experience to Shackletons as their Health and Wellness Adviser.

St Patrick's Day party!

Celebrating in style our residents took part in a full filled day of quizzes, dancing and music as they painted the home ‘green’ for St Patrick’s Day before enjoying a little tipple in the afternoon and watching an interesting documentary which took a look at Irish history.  It was fascinating and enjoyed by all and laughter could be heard throughout the day.  One resident remarked, “I’ll sleep well tonight!”.

Home raises funds for Comic Relief

Residents were overwhelmed after all their hard work was a success and they were able to raise money for Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day through a raffle and bake sale, and would like to thank the homes local community for their generosity and support in donating items to the event.

It was a fun-filled day as Residents participated in in-house games to win prizes and had even taken part in planning and arranging the day for everyone’s enjoyment. Afterwards residents had a sense of self-achievement and really felt part of their community, they were delighted to hear how much was raised for a worthy cause.

Celebrating Mother's Day

Residents at Barchester Healthcare’s Springvale Court care home, in Wrekenton, celebrated Mother’s Day with a Mother’s day themed game on bingo, visits from their loved ones and well deserved pamper.

Staff at Springvale Court arranged an afternoon pampering session with foot-spas, hand massages for our special ladies in the home as their favourite music played in the background. The homes hospitality team led by Head Chef, Brenda Earl prepared a special menu of delicious home-made cakes and scones and for those chocolate lovers, a chocolate fountain to mark the day. A local Florist donated some beautiful daffodils for all our ladies to enjoy too.

General Manager, Judith Tully said: “We’ve all had such a special day. The ladies loved their personal pamper and their guests were really impressed by everything the staff did to spoil everyone rotten!”

Home give back to local community

Staff at Springvale are serving warming hot chocolate to residents, colleagues and essential workers who may pass the home in their local area.  As a way of saying thank you to the paramedics, nurses, police officers and other emergency services workers who don’t always have time to go home or back to their workplace on their break, the team and the residents of Springvale are providing free hot chocolate and mince pies to those passing,
