Activities at St Thomas Care Home
Our activities coordinator is dedicated to organising meaningful activities on an individual and group basis to fulfill the daily needs of our residents, as we understand how important mental and physical stimulation is for their wellbeing. Our activities are available to everyone who wants to take part and there is something different going on everyday. We often go out on day trips including visiting shopping centres, garden centres, evening meals at the local pubs, visits to local schools and also coffee mornings with other care homes. We have a wide range of entertainers that visit us at our home including musical therapists, Millers Ark Farm, pantomimes as well as our local salvation army and lots more. We encourage families to join us on trips out and also in home activities such as baking, arts and crafts, dancing and singing, we believe this is a great way for our residents to live an active and fun life here with us at St Thomas.

I'm Charlie and I am the Activities Lead here at St Thomas. I have worked for Barchester since 2017, and have recently transferred here to the wonderful St Thomas Care Home.
I enjoy delivering enriching and fun activities to the residents here and am looking forward to meeting you!

Life at St Thomas Care Home
Free colouring poster for Remembrance Day
St Thomas care home have created a lovely colouring page for Remembrance Day. It could be coloured in and put in a window or displayed at your children's school or nursery. Great for after school activities and Cubs, Brownies, Scout groups etc. Please feel free share our post on Facebook, @barchesterstthomas, with schools and groups that may be interested, for a jpeg copy please email: alison.titheridge@barchester.com or call us for more details. Pumpkin wreath making
Residents spent a very enjoyable afternoon creating pumpkin wreaths with foliage from our gardens, (so especially ‘green’ as no miles travelled!), the team all joined in to help and we made beautiful displays for our home – At St Thomas we are proud to be making Halloween dementia friendly and fun for residents
Christmas Cake Making!
Here at St Thomas we decided it’s never too early to start mixing your Christmas cake – actually only 62 sleeps to go! Residents started by soaking dried fruits in a mix of brandy and sherry, the smell was divine as it was stirred in, then adding a secret ingredient, hand chopped prunes for a really moist cake.
We did lose some fruit along the way as we needed to taste it, just to check enough of the right spirits – residents voted it delicious
Halloween preparations underway!
Preparations are in full swing for Halloween, to decorate the home we are painting our own pumpkins in bright orange and had a thoroughly messy afternoon. Many of the residents joined in at the table, by the end of the afternoon we had a complete tray which looked beautiful – a real team effort!
Looking forward to Spring!
Residents had a busy afternoon in the garden planting spring bulbs, warmly wrapped up in the autumn sunshine they filled the pots, digging deep into the bags compost and very neatly placing the bulbs into rows. We are all looking forward to a riot of colour in the spring!
Songs specially requested by our residents!
St Thomas is a regular on Hospital Radio Basingstoke with residents requests played for a full hour on Sunday afternoon! Its great residents can ask for songs which they love and not played on mainstream radio shows. Listen out for the next St Thomas request show live on Sunday 1st November
