Activities at St Thomas Care Home

Our activities coordinator is dedicated to organising meaningful activities on an individual and group basis to fulfill the daily needs of our residents, as we understand how important mental and physical stimulation is for their wellbeing. Our activities are available to everyone who wants to take part and there is something different going on everyday. We often go out on day trips including visiting shopping centres, garden centres, evening meals at the local pubs, visits to local schools and also coffee mornings with other care homes. We have a wide range of entertainers that visit us at our home including musical therapists, Millers Ark Farm, pantomimes as well as our local salvation army and lots more. We encourage families to join us on trips out and also in home activities such as baking, arts and crafts, dancing and singing, we believe this is a great way for our residents to live an active and fun life here with us at St Thomas.

Life at St Thomas Care Home

Technology keeps our minds engaged!

Residents love to use our tablets for games such as snakes and ladders, noughts and crosses - they are fabulous for the Skype and Facetimes calls too enabling residents to keep in touch with family and friends who are far away

Christmas Cake Making – stage 2!

Yes residents started mixing our Christmas cake back in October but there is still more work to do before we enjoy it! We worked as a team on the second stage with all the delicious smells of the citrus fruits being grated and added to the mix, don’t worry there are more stages to come before the final unveiling in December and we get our first slice

World TV Day

We took residents on a trip back in time to the days of black and white television and those childhood favourites they watched with their families, the Woodentops, Sooty & Sweep and presenters like Arthur Askey. It was an afternoon of laughter and remembering catchphrases of many early comedians and presenters like Morecambe and Wise who still make us smile!

Poppies in the Sunshine!

Residents made wonderful a poppy display in November which looked so pretty in the sunshine on our conservatory corridor, it certainly made a talking point during resident strolls around the home and helped with the reminiscence for Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day. Thank you to everyone in the team for their hard work putting it together.

Firework Night!

Memories of making the ‘Guy’ for firework night was the subject of our reminiscence, when a penny for the guy on the corner of the street or a doorstep would provide the money to buy fireworks! This year we collected magazines and newspapers to stuff our outfit, however reading and looking at the pictures proved to be rather distracting so it did take a while. Great fun for everyone and he did look rather good, far too nice to put on a fire so he’s staying with us for the time being

Baby shower times 3!

The three mums on our team will be will be leaving us soon to go on maternity leave.

Residents got creative to adorn the home in decorations for the baby shower.

Everyone had a great time at the party with the mums to be being showered in beautiful gifts.
