Activities at Stoneham Grove Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Iuliana Buican

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Iuliana and I'm Activities Lead here at Stoneham Grove.

I worked as a History Teacher for 12 years before joining Barchester in 2017.

I am passionate about my job and I love working with people. I enjoy planning and providing meaningful activities that make a difference in the lives of our residents, counting their hobbies and wishes.

In my free time, I enjoy travelling, dancing, quizzing and playing board games with my  family and friends.

I am looking forward to using my skills and experience to enhance the lives of our wonderful residents.

International Pizza day

It was International Pizza day recently, so we thought it fitting that for our baking club this week we should make our own! There was a slight difference of opinion regarding toppings but the end results were delicious

Creative Inspiration - Frida Kahlo painting

Our residents love time spent being creative. Last week we were joined by Cheryl and Johnny from Creative Mojo for an interactive crafting session. We think the end result of a collage of Frida Kahlo is so cheerful and upliftingFrida Kahlo was a Mexican painter known for her self-portraits and works inspired by the nature and artefacts of Mexico Thank you Cheryl and Johnny, we look forward to our next creative session with you very soon

Chinese Lunar New Year celebrations

We welcomed the Chinese Lunar year "Year of the Snake" last week by crafting some Chinese lanterns, decorating the home with bunting and offering some lucky red envelopes to all residents and staff. Our chefs treated the residents to a specially prepared Chinese menu including Noodle soup, Chicken Stir-fry, Mushroom and leek chow main and spiced rice pudding...delicious In the afternoon we learnt all about Chinese New Year traditions and superstitions, and found out more about our Chinese Zodiac Signs and which animal we were according to the year we were born.

Our First baking Club

It had to be chocolate muffins... as we celebrate National Chocolate Cake Day.... we are a couple of days early , but we wanted to test our chocolate muffin recipe before the big day. We're pleased to say the end result was delicious ! Thank you to our resident star bakers, Lillian, Len, Pat and Marie

Burns Night celebrations

2025 marks the 265th anniversary of the Scottish poet Robert Burns ..or Rabbie Burns and so we thought we'd celebrate the life and legacy of Scotland's National bard with a few Scottish traditionsThese included a getting to know Rabbie Burns with some interesting facts about him, followed by a knowledge quiz. This was followed by a traditional Scottish lunch of Haggis, neeps and tatties. This was followed by poetry club reciting his best loved poems whilst enjoying a warming dram of Scotch Whisky! Cheers

Embracing the Power of the Flower...

Our residents spent a wonderfully relaxing day this week celebrating International Flower Day, which is celebrated on the 19th January.

International Flower Day promotes the psychological boost that flowers can give to people. from growing and nurturing plants and flowers, to gifting flowers to show love and appreciation, and sometimes just the simple act of admiring their beauty, flowers have the power to make someone's day. Our ladies took part in a range of flower themed activities including flower arranging, reminiscing about their own gardens and their favourite flowers and finally a flower petal quiz which they all very much enjoyed.

Their collective floral knowledge gained from years of gardening experience was very impressive - Well done ladies!
