Activities at Strachan House Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Natasha Rubin

Activities Coordinator

G’day! My name is Natasha and I am the activities lead here at Strachan House. I am Australian born and bred, braving the dark and the cold here in Edinburgh to enjoy the beautiful nature and wonderful people! I have a background in team management and design. I have always loved working with people and have a strong interest in mental health and well-being, recently embarking on a psychology degree with an interest in specialising in Art Therapy. I am working with the team to create a vibrant, engaging and person-centred home.

Sam's Memorial

Sam's Memorial

This special memorial was unveiled at the 20th anniversary of Strachan. It is in memory of Sam Latter, a former resident of our home who lived here for 10 years. He was also Scotland's oldest man at 106.

The memorial was unveiled by Edward Green, Deputy Lord Lieutenant of the City of Edinburgh, and was designed by John Glynn, Gardener of Strachan.

20th Anniversary

20th Anniversary

Strachan House held a party to celebrate 20 years of serving the local community.

Staff, residents and guests celebrated this special occasion with Edward Green, Deputy Lord Lieutenant for the City of Edinburgh, and his wife, Mrs Maryla Green, as special guests. The home was also joined by Rev Halliday, from St Columba’s Church, with whom Strachan House have had a long relationship.

Everyone commented on the wonderful hot and cold buffet that was prepared by the catering team, which was a feast for the eyes and soul!

There was lots of entertainment at the event, including plate spinning, which residents particularly enjoyed.
