Activities at Sutton Valence Care Home

Residents and staff, led by Adelle, were treated to a fabulous display for Christmas 2021, our Winter Wonderland creation! This takes many months to create each year culminating in a huge, bright and sophisticated themed display that fills the home with joy and laughter!

Residents were treated to the lovely Keeley, who came to serenade everyone at the home with Christmas songs to celebrate the festive season. Everyone had an amazing time listening and joining in with the well-known old time songs and Christmas classics all followed by mince pies and mulled wine to round of the day.

Staff and residents at Sutton Valence got into the festive spirit helping out our feathered friends when they celebrated National Robin Day on 21st December.

National Robin Day is an annual nationwide event raising awareness of small birds and other wildlife in winter and how we can all help them through this tough time of year.  The aim of the event is to inspire people to take action for wildlife. The nation’s favourite bird, the robin, symbolises the festivities of Christmas time. The cold winter months are especially tough for animals; as temperatures drop and food becomes scarce, wildlife such as garden birds need a little extra help.

Adele, a resident said: “I love all birds but I have an extra special soft spot for a robin, there is one in particular that comes to visit me by the front door every day I like to feed it. I believe it’s my grandad coming to visit and say hello.”

Our varied life enrichment programme keeps residents active, and provides a daily choice of engaging physical, mental and spiritual activities tailored to residents’ interests and abilities.

Sutton Valence commemorated the signing of the Armistice Day agreement on the day that the guns finally fell silent.  They joined the rest of the United Kingdom in holding a two-minute silence at the eleventh hour, on the eleventh day, of the eleventh month.

As well as marking Armistice Day by wearing poppies and observing the national two minute silence, residents took part in therapeutic activities with live entertainment with PJ and rose playing wartime songs, creating poppy wreath displays and listening to wartime songs.  

Last week one of our residents celebrated her 93rd birthday! She was over the moon when her daughter and son in law visited her in the visiting suite in the afternoon to celebrate the special day with her. Activities coordinator, Ricky, visited her to wish her happy birthday and gave her balloons and a card from the home. Debbie made a lovely birthday cake too! We hope you had a lovely birthday!

Residents at Sutton Valence have been busy bee’s this afternoon, baking a Carrot cake for Christmas with our chef, Suraj! It was a lovely afternoon, sharing ideas of different recipes around the table and how they were going to decorate the final piece.
