Activities at The Cedars Bourne Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Life at The Cedars Bourne Care Home

Betty's tea rooms comes to Cedars

Residents and guests at The Cedars Care Home in Bourne enjoyed an elegant afternoon of tea tasting and cakes to celebrate National Tea Day. Based on the incredible Betty’s Tearooms in Harrogate, the pop up café included sampling a selection of different teas, including floral and fruity, loose leaf, traditional and bubble teas; accompanied by wonderful fresh baked scone with jam, cream and strawberries and a selection of tea flavoured loaf cakes handmade by the hospitality team.

Easter celebrations

Happy Easter from all of us at The Cedars Care Home - Barchester Healthcare!

Our residents enjoyed a morning visit from the Easter Bunny before a wonderful traditional roast dinner and glass of wine. Then we braved the chill wind to have our Easter egg hunt in the garden before resident Thelma chose the winner of our Easter Bonnet Competition. First place was awarded to Anne, with Barbara second and a joint third place was given to Marjorie and Rose. Congratulations to you all!!

Grand National

THEY'RE UNDER STARTERS ORDERS...AND THEY'RE OFF!!!

In a run up to the Grand National we ran a Big Race of our own. Three pre races led to the big finale with Pauline taking the Golden Cup in the winners enclosure. We had stallers at the famous Canal Turn and Bechers Brook, we had fallers in the water leading to a dramatic and exciting finish over the winners post. The wonderful fun and tomfoolery shows in all the facial expressions so I shall let the pictures do the talking. Thank you to everyone who helped make this a fun day!!!

Come sing!

Residents across our homes and hospitals had a fantastic time with vocal coach Dan Cooper from Biiah as he led an amazing sing-a-long session for residents to enjoy.

Residents who joined the event were able to learn different techniques as they sang the famous ‘I Can See Clearly Now’ by Jimmy Cliff and ‘Here Comes the Sun’ by The Beatles.

Across our homes there were smiles and laugher all around. The session was such a success and was great for the mind, body and soul.

RAF Wickenby Memorial Collection Visit

Residents and visitors gathered for a fascinating talk presented by Bill Badger and Peter Colley from the RAF Wickenby Memorial Collection. Using a variety of memorabilia and replica artefacts, the duo spoke to our residents about the history of the base; the 40 Lancaster bombers that launched from the site and the vital role of Bomber Command in WWII.

Resident Ronald Priest, a bomber command veteran from World War II, really enjoyed the talk; and said that it bought back so many memories of his service. He was happy to share his experiences with the visitors, who really enjoyed meeting him. Residents had a mix of emotions hearing the stories- nearly all present were able to contribute their own stories from their lives during the war.

Pianist Graham Tickle

Residents and guests enjoyed a relaxing afternoon of live piano music played by pianist Graham Tickle. Graham is well known in the area from his 30 year career playing piano at The George Hotel in Stamford; and we were thrilled to be offered a concert by such a talented musician. Residents gathered to listen to a range of songs played from memory in their stunning Garden Lounge.

Residents joined in with the music, humming and dancing along to songs such as ‘Windmills of Your Mind’; ‘King off the Road’ and ‘Greensleeves’. Residents at the Cedars really enjoyed the performance, with Rose (an ex-pianist herself) saying ‘it brings back some wonderful memories’ and Gwen commenting that it was ‘wonderful music to hum along to’. They have already invited him back for a repeat performance!
