Activities at Upton Bay Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Karen Grant
I first worked in the care sector in 2010, starting in domiciliary care and progressing to Care Coordinator. I have since gained a wealth of experience in dedicated dementia and residential activities, working as a peripatetic activities coordinator in 16 out of 20 homes within a group, and then in 2018, I was part of a team that commissioned a new luxury care home, where I was an Activities Team Leader.
I enjoy making wishes come true for residents: in February 2015, I organised my first wedding in a care home. The lady resident who was living with dementia was unable to travel to Hertfordshire for her granddaughters wedding, so I brought the wedding to her. I organised a wedding blessing at the home; we had a vicar, a choir, all of the bridal party, the flowers, a buffet, a wedding cake, champagne—the full works.
In 2017, I organised a smaller wedding in the garden, and this was a special wish for a gentleman resident to see his granddaughter married. Organising these special moments gives me a lot of pleasure, knowing I have made them feel special and to give families that happiness and see them smile.
I cannot wait to welcome our residents into their wonderful new home and help to bring smiles, joy and laughter to each day.
Karen is also one of our dementia champions

Our dedicated team put on a remarkable show that captivated all our residents, families, and visitors. The day was filled with joy, laughter, and fun activities for everyone. Flower arranging and Afternoon Tea
Today was a fantastic day at Upton Bay as we immersed ourselves in two delightful activities that brought us together in creativity and sweetness
We started the day with a lovely flower arranging session where we unleashed our inner florists and crafted beautiful bouquets and centrepieces. The room was filled with colourful blooms, laughter, and shared moments of artistry
After our floral adventures, we transitioned to a delicious ice cream sundae bar. We indulged in scoops of creamy goodness topped with an array of delectable treats like fruits, nuts, sauces, and sprinkles. It was a sweet way to end our day filled with laughter and joy

Trip to Lulworth Cove
Upton Bay Community embarked on another memorable trip and enjoyed a beautiful scenic drive to Lulworth Cove. During their visit, they savored a cup of tea while admiring the picturesque views and had the pleasure of encountering numerous cows, horses, and deer along the way
It seems like they had a wonderful time filled with serene moments and pleasant encounters during their excursion. Let's continue to provide enriching experiences for our residents to create lasting memories and brighten their days

Morning with Cornerstone Academy
We are thrilled to share that the residents at Upton Bay had a truly enjoyable and engaging morning with the teachers and students from Cornerstone Academy. Residents, along with Karen Activities and Jo Carer, were warmly welcomed by the courteous students, who graciously guided them to their seats and offered tea, coffee, and biscuits.
The event began with an inspiring video featuring the remarkable journey of Teacher Miss Keeting, a former RAF Chinook Helicopter pilot. Her story of resilience and determination touched everyone's hearts. Residents had the pleasure of watching the Military Choir perform, engaging in dancing activities, and even joining in for a dance themselves. The morning concluded with a fun bean bag toss game, bringing laughter and joy to all participants
