Activities at West Abbey Care Home
Our Activities Coordinators are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in. There are regular outings in the minibus to nearby places of interest, as well as visits from the Donkey sanctuary, musicians and entertainers. We also host evenings such as our Cheese & Wine evenings and BBQ's in the summer, that we encourage relatives to come to. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained. We encourage our residents to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can to ensure that life at West Abbey is fun and active for all.
Nikki Griffee
Hi, I'm Nikki and I originally came to work at West Abbey in 2018 and have worked in various roles supporting our residents.
What I enjoy about my job is that no two days are the same and most of all, I thoroughly enjoy everyday activities with the residents including 1-2-1 room visits all the way to professional singers visiting us. A firm favourite of mine and the residents at West Abbey is using our mini-bus weekly and visiting local nature hot spots! I look forward to welcoming you to our home.

National Poetry Day
The below poem was put together by a group of residents on our Memory Lane unit to celebrate National Poetry Day. Enjoy!
Macmillan Coffee Morning
We Raised £122.37 by holding our own bake off during our Macmillan Coffee Morning on Friday 30th September. Staff brought in cakes to be judged and there were four finalists: Louis (Maintenance), Anna (Activities) Helen, (Deputy Manager) and Pete (Head Chef). Overall, Pete was declared the winner - congratulations!
Multicultural Day at West Abbey
On Saturday 13th August, our Memory Lane unit (the Lyde unit) held a multicultural BBQ, where residents and their families were invited to taste food from different countries. It started at 1:00pm and went on until 5:00pm. This was a great success and staff brought in dishes they had made, coming in on their day off to celebrate with us. We played 50s & 60s music, which people loved singing along to, and there were lots of different desserts and cakes, as well as plenty to drink.
The Gardening Dream Team
We were lucky to have 14 volunteers from the National Citizen Service help us with the front and back gardens for two days. Residents came out to see them working and give them drinks, which was all in preparation for the judging by South West in Bloom and Yeovil in Bloom in the week commencing 8th August. Thank you to the Dream Works team for all their hard work.
BBQ at West Abbey
We had a BBQ out in out memorial garden; there were sausages, burgers and plenty to drink. The weather was dry and sun came out to shine.
The Barry Pentalows Show
Barry Pentalows' reminiscence show for July was down at the seaside. Residents reminisced about the times when they watched Punch & Judy, played with buckets & spades, ate ice cream, and sent funny post cards.
