Activities at Westergate House Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Rachel Smith-Wise
Activities Lead
My name is Rachel, and I am the Activities Lead here at Westergate House.
I am delighted to work in such a lovely home and to support our residents to do the things they enjoy; it is extremely important to me that we are offering a premium and person-centred service to each resident. I support our residents on a daily basis by providing meaningful and quality activities either in groups or one-to-one, helping to encourage and build individuals’ confidence, while creating an enjoyable environment for everyone. Westergate House is the home of our residents, so it is extremely important to me that we respect their space, while offering unique activity provision to each and every person.
My background includes local charity work and events planning, for organisations including Sussex Wildlife and Chestnut Tree House. I am eager to find out about our residents’ individual choices and aspirations, and plan to organise activities and outings to meet their preferences. Outside of Westergate House, homelife is busy with two teenage boys. I enjoy spending time outdoors walking in the countryside, as well as creative activities, to relax and refresh.
Celebrating life at Westergate House Care Home

Pinks Vintage Ice cream visit in the heatwave
Residents at Westergate House enjoyed a wonderful summer surprise when Paul, Senior General Manager, arranged for Pinks Ice Cream van to visit. With the early summer sunshine making a welcome appearance, together with delightfully warm temperatures, residents, relatives and staff all gathered outside to enjoy their favourite ice cream treats.
From traditional cones to colourful lollies, there was something for everyone, and plenty of smiles to go around. The visit created a lovely atmosphere throughout the home, bringing people together to relax, chat and make happy summer memories.

Sing-a-long
What a fabulous afternoon at Westergate House! We had the pleasure of welcoming our much-loved Lee for musical entertainment in the House lounge. Lee sang well-known hits from all the decades, entertaining us with his wonderful voice and super company. There wasn’t an empty seat!
A very special afternoon; thank you, Lee, we look forward to seeing you again soon.

Mother's Day
At Westergate House, we celebrated Mother’s Day with a wonderful afternoon tea prepared by our amazing kitchen team.
Residents were joined by their families for a lovely afternoon filled with tea, delicious treats and special moments together. A big thank you to our team for preparing such a beautiful spread, and to all the families who came along to make the day so special for our residents.

Beating the winter blues with bingo!
We had an amazing afternoon of fun and games at Westergate House. Local entertainer Lee, who has fantastic skills as a bingo caller, kept everyone entertained with fun-filled rounds, bringing laughter and smiles to residents, visitors, family and friends alike – and with a prize every time, the excitement didn't stop!
The afternoon was made even more special by welcoming two lovely community agents from Age UK West Sussex, Brighton and Hove, who joined us to share helpful information. Thank you everyone, a fabulous afternoon.

Celebrating another wedding anniversary
At Westergate House we love a special occasion! Today we were delighted to celebrate a very special wedding anniversary with our married couple, Doreen and Colin. With over 70 years of marriage behind them and still going strong, their love and commitment continue to inspire everyone around them.
The couple marked the occasion by enjoying a delicious lunch in our bistro with their family, sharing precious time together and creating new memories. Paul and Nikki presented Doreen and Colin with flowers and chocolates and wished them their warmest congratulations. It was a heart-warming day, and we were honoured to be part of something so special.

Residents attend Eastergate Village weekly coffee morning
At Westergate House, we have enjoyed making the most of the wonderful early summer weather, and it’s been lovely to get out and about.
We took a trip on the minibus to Eastergate Village Hall community coffee morning; a popular choice with our residents, providing a super chance for a catch-up and natter with good friends over refreshments – cups of tea and slices of delicious cake were delighted in!

Barchester's Charitable Foundation Cake Sale and Raffle
At Westergate House, we held a fabulous Cake Sale and Raffle to support Barchester’s Charitable Foundation. It was wonderful to see so many visitors and residents come together and enjoy the event, raising an impressive £200 for the cause.
Thank you to everyone who came along, making the day such a lovely occasion.

Coffee in the garden
At Westergate House we are enjoying the spring sunshine. A delightful opportunity to make the most of the gardens and have tea and cake in good company.
Residents take part in daily walks for fresh air and exercise, with the chance to sit and enjoy afternoon tea, a chat and the super weather.

Valentine's Day Lunch
We have had a Valentine's Day to remember at Westergate House, where our home was filled with warmth, laughter and a wonderful sense of togetherness. We celebrated the special day with our residents and members of the community aged 65+.
At the heart of the day were our residents, who loved sharing their homes and stories with our guests - who might have otherwise spent the day alone. Everyone enjoyed a three-course lunch in our lovely surroundings, with residents and guests coming together around the table. With the sun shining, it was the perfect day for connection and companionship.

Winter Indoor Sports
At Westergate House, ahead of the Winter Olympics, we have been involved in winter sports! The lovely Donna from RISE put us through our paces with a fabulous seated exercise session in our memory lane community. A game that followed the theme of curling brought fun, movement, and friendly competition to everyone involved. Our residents were divided into two enthusiastic teams – The Red Sliders and The Blue Skiers, and from their seats, took turns throwing soft balls toward a target, aiming carefully to score points for their team based on accuracy.
The room was filled with laughter, encouragement, and plenty of team spirit as everyone cheered each other on. Both teams showed great focus and determination, making it a close and entertaining contest. In the end, The Red Sliders claimed the trophy, celebrating their success with big smiles and applause. Thank you Donna, always a pleasure, and a wonderful example of how exercise, creativity, and teamwork can create a warm and engaging atmosphere for all.

Memory Lane visit to Weald & Downland Open Air Museum
At Westergate House we are enjoying our trips out into the local community in the minibus. Residents were keen to join a visit to the Weald & Downland Open Air Museum, where we enjoyed strolling through the amazing historical buildings and taking in the beautiful landscape.
To finish off the outing, there was a stop at the delightful café for coffee and cake – which was thoroughly enjoyed!

Ear for you
At Westergate House, we welcomed Cara of Ear For You, West Sussex, who delivered an incredibly informative and engaging workshop for our residents and visitors from the local community, all about ears.

Spring walk
At Westergate House we are thrilled to see the Spring sunshine and are making the most of the lovely weather this week.
Walks in our grounds have been a popular choice with residents, a chance to stretch our legs and enjoy the fresh air! Being outdoors has been a great boost for wellbeing, and a reminder that longer days are just around the corner.

Fabric printing workshop
Westergate House was focused on art and creation throughout a fabulous workshop exploring the art of fabric printing.
Residents in our House community were delighted to welcome Sarah from Matt Black Barn arts centre for an engaging session where techniques were demonstrated. Individual designs were created and pressed onto different fabrics with wonderful results. Well done everyone, and thank you Sarah for a super creative morning.

Father Paul's Service
We are always delighted to welcome Father Paul from Eastergate Parish Church, to Westergate House fortnightly. The lovely service offered a peaceful time for reflection, familiar and much-loved hymns, and a comforting sense of togetherness as we begin the new year.
It was especially nice for our residents to come together, share the moment, and enjoy the calm and uplifting atmosphere. The service was very well received by everyone, and we all agreed it was lovely to start the year with such a meaningful and reassuring experience.
