Activities at Westlake House Care Home

Residents enjoy playing hoopla and bocce bowls, which combine exercise with the thrill of competitive sport. We invite entertainers and musicians to visit the home on a regular basis and residents very much enjoy watching them perform.

We also have our pet therapy dog, Marley, visit the home on a fortnightly basis, and residents love petting him. They also enjoy health and fitness days, where they get the opportunity to participate in armchair exercises and target games.

We always celebrate National Volunteer Week, which we use as a chance to say thank you for the wonderful work that our volunteers do that further enhances the quality of life for those who live at Westlake.

As well as continuing with our favourite activities, such as arts & crafts, bingo, knit & natter, Scrabble, board games, bridge, quizzes, pampers & manicures, reminiscence sessions and musical memories, we always like to launch new activities for residents, which give them the opportunity to socialise with their friends and families. These could be our own vegetable patches, flower arranging sessions, a book club or anything else that our imaginations conjure up.

Rosie Duhig

Activities Coordinator Lead

I joined the Barchester family in November 2024 and have instantly felt welcome and supported. As an activity coordinator, I am passionate about getting to know our residents and delivering  person-centred care and activities to all residents, an approach supported by a holistic, whole-home view.

I have been in a Care support role since 2019 and an Activity Coordinator since 2020. I love that my role brings laughter and joy to others. It so wonderful seeing people engaging in an activity they enjoy and interacting with each other. I am very passionate about Intergenerational projects, as something magical happens when old and young get together.

Life at Westlake House Care Home

Evening piano recital with Mel

Residents enjoyed an evening with Mel as she played the piano and sang so beautifully, a perfect end to the day

Raising money for our local hospice

Westlake House is hosting a Christmas Fete on Wednesday 24th November and will be raising money for St Catherines Hospice who offer support and expertise to our team at Westlake House and as a thank you, we wanted to raise money from the proceeds of a raffle for which we have wonderful gifts and prizes.  Please come and support Westlake House on Wednesday and pick up some gifts from our visiting Craft Stalls while sipping a cup of Mulled Wine and munching on home made Mince Pies and sweet treats.

Christmas wreath making masterclass

Our residents at Westlake House joined in a live event with Blooming Haus Florists and took part in a wreath making masterclass which was thoroughly enjoyable and very productive. The wreaths were decorated for their rooms or as gifts for friends or relatives and it was a lot of creative fun!

Armistice Day

Residents at Westlake House held the two minute silence on 11th November, to commemorate Remembrance Day. They also enjoyed a beautifully choreographed performance by the English National Ballet, with a special extract of Akram Khan’s work Dust, premiered in 2014 as part of ENB’s Lest We Forget programme commemorating the First World War.

Halloween Pumpkin Carving!

We had a number of wonderful entries delivered to the home from some young pumpkin contestants. Our resident judges commented on how impressed they were by the imagination of the contestants and their carving skills.  The judges deliberated over the entries and unanimously agreed 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.  They also awarded two runners up with some well-deserved chocolates.   Well done to the contestants for their hard work and to everyone involved in the competition.

We are in the Pink!

On Friday we all took part in the Wear it Pink Breast Cancer Charity event. Residents, relatives and members enjoyed a fun day which included everything pink along with the bingo and a quick quiz .  Some members of staff wore pink to help raise money to support life-saving breast cancer research and life-changing care happen. Thank you very much to everyone who helped us raise money for such a worthwhile cause.
