Activities at Westlake House Care Home

Residents enjoy playing hoopla and bocce bowls, which combine exercise with the thrill of competitive sport. We invite entertainers and musicians to visit the home on a regular basis and residents very much enjoy watching them perform.

We also have our pet therapy dog, Marley, visit the home on a fortnightly basis, and residents love petting him. They also enjoy health and fitness days, where they get the opportunity to participate in armchair exercises and target games.

We always celebrate National Volunteer Week, which we use as a chance to say thank you for the wonderful work that our volunteers do that further enhances the quality of life for those who live at Westlake.

As well as continuing with our favourite activities, such as arts & crafts, bingo, knit & natter, Scrabble, board games, bridge, quizzes, pampers & manicures, reminiscence sessions and musical memories, we always like to launch new activities for residents, which give them the opportunity to socialise with their friends and families. These could be our own vegetable patches, flower arranging sessions, a book club or anything else that our imaginations conjure up.

Cameron Harris

Activities Coordinator Lead

I joined the Barchester family in May 2024 and have instantly felt welcome and supported. As an activity coordinator, I am passionate about getting to know our residents and delivering  person-centred care and activities to all residents, an approach supported by a holistic, whole-home view.  I have a solid theoretical background in supporting older people with their social and wellbeing needs. I graduated with a 2:1 in Psychology BSc in 2022. Since then, I have worked as an activity coordinator and cognitive rehabilitation assistant with older people.

I am studying for a master’s degree in Psychological therapies to help me progress in clinical work. I am committed to continuous professional development and training to improve Westlake's life enrichment aspect..

I feel that the residents at Westlake House benefit most when we work together as a team to ensure that our service is delivered appropriately, successfully, and in line with high standards set by Barchester.

Beanbag Target

Beanbag Target

This is a light and fun way of combining a game with exercise. Beanbag target consists of two teams playing against each other; the idea is to throw the bags into the hoops. This encourages a little competitiveness.

Carers Week

Carers Week

Carers at were made to feel extra special as the home celebrated Carers Week (12th-18th June) and thanked carers for their hard work, commitment and care.

To celebrate the week, every Carer was given a personalised goody bag containing a box of chocolates & lots of pampering treats, as a token of all their hard work & dedication to the home & the residents they look after so well.

Care Home Open Day

Care Home Open Day

Young and old came together to celebrate Care Home Open Day for a day of community fun at Westlake House

The afternoon had the fantastic entertainers, Trowbadour Productions, who delighted residents with a musical performance, which had all the residents, their families, visitors & staff joining in with the well-known songs from the shows! The production was held in our wonderful gardens, under sun umbrellas, whilst enjoying homemade ice creams & cakes. Westlake was very lucky to have Daniel Hanbury, who is the Director of Horsham Financial Services Ltd, join us for the afternoon as well.

Birthday Celebrations

Birthday Celebrations

Celebrating our Activities Coordinator's 'big' birthday was an excuse for cake - and that is always welcome! The fact that it could be enjoyed in the sunshine was even nbetter and, judging by the look on her face, a nice surprise too.

Wedding Bells at Westlake

Everyone at Westlake House is in celebratory mood in the run up to the wedding of our Head Chef to one of our long term Care Assistants. The couple met at Westlake House after Head Chef, Ryan, started working there in 2012.

Because of how much the staff at Westlake enjoy socialising with each other, it wasn’t long before the nights out for many became nights in for two, and the rest, as they say, is history.

They were delighted to receive a hand-knitted bride and groom from Charlotte, another long term Care Assistant.

It was an easy decision to involve the residents in the celebrations, and before the two went off for a well-earned break after the wedding, there was a party in the lounge with many residents and staff. They cut the cake and were showered with confetti, and we all wished them a long and happy life together.
