Activities at Westvale House Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.
Joanne Sherwood
Hi, I'm Joanne and I'm the Activities Co-ordinator at Westvale House! I joined the team in December 2023 and absolutely love my role. Getting to spend time with our residents every day and getting to know each of them more and more, is such a privilege.
I get to create and tailor our activities to the preferences of each individual resident, making sure they're all doing things they'll absolutely love, and that brings me and the rest of the team so much joy. Making each of their days special is what I believe my job is all about.
Read our brochure 'Life-enriching activities' for more information about life in our care homes.

Life at Westvale House Care Home
Craft Club
We love getting involved in everything here at Westvale House but often like a quieter club and relaxing so pot painting is also a favourite here.
St Philips church
St Philips is our local church and they came and delivered holy communion to our residents.
David John Dee
We enjoyed the singing delights from David John Dee. He always gets all our residents singing along it was great to see him back at our care home again.
Nancy's Birthday!
We celebrated one of our residents Nancy’s birthday this month we had garden party with entertainment and our kitchen put on a beautiful buffet.
BHC Care Awards 2022 - Divisional Winner
We are proud to announce that Paul Dillon has been crowned Care Practitioner of the Year for the North Division in this year’s Barchester Care Awards and is through to the national round of judging.
More than 2,950 nominations were received from all Barchester homes and hospitals across the UK. All entries were a very high standard and Paul is over the moon to have been named the winner for the division, beating hundreds of other nominees.
Our divisional winner, Paul is through to the national finals in which the overall winner is decided. He will join winners from across the UK at a special awards event in October to celebrate their outstanding achievements and discover if they have won a national award. Huge congratulations, well deserved!
An afternoon at the Opera
Our homes had a fabulous time with the talented soprano Astrid Joos from Street Theatre. Astrid spoke about a selection of famous operas and our residents were treated to performances of wonderful arias from operas well-known to all, such as ‘Giuditta’, ‘Don Giovanni’ and ‘Le Nozze di Figaro’.
It was a lovely experience, truly enjoyed by all.
